Likes: My first new board purchase was an Artec Gabe Taylor (previous year model). Before that I was riding a used Lamar from Craigslist. The local shop had the GT on a good promo price and the store owner spoke very highly of Artec quality. I did some research when I got home and now I'm a huge fan of Gabe Taylor, the boarder! I felt even more confident with my purchase knowing he stood behind Artec products. The board itself is amazing! Withstood my beginner beatings and helped me develop as a rider fairly quickly. Amazing pop, solid build, fast base. It wasn't that lightweight but that's what you get with a solid build. I would have kept the board if it weren't for a great deal on a Burton Vapor and I had to sell to afford my new purchase. Sometimes I still regret that decision. This is not a very popular brand on the mountain. Only a select few understand the quality behind Artec, the rest gravitate toward more popular brands. It's a shame more people don't know about it.
Dislikes: Given its relatively low popularity, you just won't see too much selection for Artec in stores. It'd be nice to see more product promotion to spread awareness of the brand.

Likes: I love artec. They were the first company that got my cash. I found a 2.3 in a shopin nagano looking lonely so i bought it. The board was fast, incredibly durable and aggressive. It was built to smash everything it came across and did it with style. Now lots of people see artec and link them in with brands like 5150, morrow and lamar - big box wallmart brands. This is a massive mistake. The brand is TOP QUALITY. Its the experimental division of ELAN (one of the biggest snowboard manufacturers pn earth), and its aim was to fuse art and technology (ar-tec - duh!). They came up with the omega sidecut which they still deploy, but over the years and due to the fact you can find them pretty easy in sales since they aint so well known in the states, theres an idea that they arent really that good. This is a huge mistake. When you have Elan bankrolling you, youre producing quality product! If you see one from last year or the year before, chances are youll be scoring a bargain.
Dislikes: For the "experimental" division of ELAN theyve done pretty much nothing since the omega sidecut.
The deck i owned was built like a tank... but also weighed about the same. Still, this was a 2004/05 deck if i remember right.
Though ive never used their bindings, ive hardly ever seena positive review of them. Stick with the deck id say.

Likes: I have purchased a couple of Artec products as cheap alternatives for my kids as I introduced them to snowboarding. So far I have bought an Artec Venus women's snowboard and a pair of men's Artec Code bindings. In general, the product is what it is, an inexpensive offering that is a descent product. The bindings are actually very comfortable and offer moderate stiffness both torsionally and laterally. The board is ideal for women and has an extremely small waist width with moderate flex...not ideal for a beginner IMHO. In general the product appears very durable and is a great low price point.
Dislikes: As far as the bindings are concerned the hardware on them is lacking and tends to freeze/stick on the mountain. The board tends to bite with a very effective edge and makes it hard for a beginner. For the price, I would have much rather bought used equipment that is excellent but this was purchased before knowing what I was getting into. Save your money and buy quality gear!
