"Killer binding" 3/20/2013
Helpful Review?   (0) Yes    (0) No

  • Name: 2013 Burton Malavita Snowboard Bindings Men's
  • Pros:  Well built, Nice flex with zero lean back, toe strap
  • Cons:  the padding on the high back isn't durable, Needs tools to adjust straps,
  • Flex:  mid

Experience:   I picked up a set of these to run this year. So far I'm very impressed. They aren't overly heavy. They seem very well built. They are stiff enough to smash but soft enough to not kill my calves (I have huge calves) and forgiving enough to jib. The toe strap is killer. It's the first toe strap I've had no complaints of. The ratchet works and is nice looking. No pinch. Don't have to crank them down. I don't even notice they're there and that's rad. Ankle strap isn't perfect but it's not uncomfortable. I found it took a few runs to get it dialed in. I love the no tool high back adjustment because some times I like a little lean some times I don't. The foot bed is comfortable and doesn't collect too much snow/ice. I hated that about my p1.1's. Tons of ice pack. The heal cup net to limit heal lift. Seems like a great idea but so far I'm not totally sold on it. It does seem to help but I still get some lift. The only complaints I have thus far are that you have to use tools to adjust the straps. Yes it's just a screw driver. But you have to remove the screw completely to adjust... drop that sucker in the snow and you're hosed. The cover is misleading because you're like... sweet I just spin this. Nope. But I will say this... Once you loosen it you can use that little cover to spin it and it's nice to have something visible if you do drop it. (I did). The other complaint is the padding on top of the high back. It's not really necessary and it gets destroyed quickly. I'm talking before lunch on my first day. Destroyed. Lift chair comes down on it. Another board or ski clips it on the lift... etc. Torn. Ends up looking like crap. Either don't put it on there or put something more durable there. My brother is running Burton's this year too and his did the same thing on the first day out. I'd recommend this binding for sure. We'll see how it holds up.
