A lightweight multi-purpose backcountry toolYou expect Backcountry poles to adjust flawlessly and not slip, and our patent- pending over-center LockJaw clamp won’t disappoint. But it’s the things you don’t expect from poles that make K2 LockJaw poles uniquely valuable. They provide important information about terrain and snowpack to help you assess avalanche hazard. The inclinometer provides insight about the most critical component of terrain: steepness. And by using the Snow Depth Ruler to measure ski or boot penetration, you can gain clues about the density of the surface snow and how much is available for wind transport. Probing with the handle can also reveal information about the depth, thickness and hardness of various layers. All this data helps you assess whether or not it is safe to ski a particular slope. The Alu/Alu model boasts the largest adjustment range of all our two-piece poles and utilizes lightweight, stiff 7075 alloy for a bomber backcountry pole. The patent-pending LockJaw adjustment system allows for quick adjustments while you are making your way through the backcountry. Use both poles together to measure the slope angle with the built-in inclinometer, and a single pole to measure snow depth quickly and easily.
