"Good binding for a decent price" 12/28/2012

  • Name: 2013 Union Force Snowboard Bindings Men's
  • Pros:  nice snug fit, good hold, durable materials
  • Flex:  mid

Experience:   i got a brand new pair for christmas and really like them a lot so far. I have used them a handful of times and they perform great as of now with no problems what so ever. I got these to replace a first set of used bindings and they are so much better than what i had and i am very glad that i upgraded. they fit my boot very nicely (Andreas Wiig) and the ankle strap holds me in wonderfully without pinching or being to tight. I do a lot of freeriding and it has been good for me on that. Also i got them in black and the color looks good and goes with my board nicely. thses mount on any type of board easily and stay on with no effort at all. these are great for any type of riding at a decent price that won't kill your bank account.

  • Name: 2013 Union Force Snowboard Bindings Men's
  • Pros:  Generous use of EVA, Good ankle strap, Good all-mountain package
  • Cons:  Ratchet issue is common, Cumbersome adjustability, Toe strap needs to be improved
  • Flex:  mid

Experience:   I used these in 2012 model and got my hands on the 2013 model at a snowboard show last month. 2013 remains unchanged from 2012, except for a splash of new colour-- even the sales reps at the show were admitting that it was the same thing... Its direct competitors are the Flux TT30 and Burton Cartel. The Union Force has been the staple of the Union range for many years, and for good reason: it's a good all-mountain binding, and their most popular, by far. But popular doesn't mean it's the best binding. The highback and baseplate are good, simple designs with uniform medium stiffness, good range of motion, and durable construction. Ankle straps are improved over their late models and provide good support and good comfort-- they're no Flux's, but better than most of the market. However, toe strap on the Union Force has always been a complete disaster... Union revised them for 2012 and now they stick to your boot better than they used to, but it's still not a confident hold. Personally, I think Union should just use Flux's toe straps; Flux did the split-band-style toe strap first, and they still do it the best. I had the same ratchet pawl problem as many other Force riders, it's caused by the spring fatiguing over time due to low quality material. The EVA baseplate bushings are a nice signature Union treatment, but I feel too much of the cost goes into this feature. It would have been better to improve the rest of the binding instead of stuffing your chassis with expensive padding... just logical to me. The Force used to be a fantastic binding years ago, but it's getting stale now after 5+ years of the same design. If you're shopping for an all-mountain binding, don't waste your time with the Union Force. The competitors (Burton, Flux) are huge leaps ahead of it now. But if you've got some hard-on for Union, forego this and just move up to their Atlas; or Contact Pro if you're a freestyler. MUCH better bindings with improved everything for only a marginal extra cost.

Experience:   By far some of the best bindings on the web. Compatible with any traditional 4x4 mounting system and 3-hole, along with Burton snowboards featuring the channel. Overall some the best bindings i have ever used.
