yup, did this last july with alpine heliski out of queenstown. $500USD got us 4 runs (regular price is $800 but we got a last minute deal). it hadn't snowed in weeks so we got frost dried powder but the last 2 runs were phenomenal. crossed off another thing on my bucketlist. still editing the video but will try to post when i get a chance.

I live in west coast of FLorida so we dont have a lot of good waves for surfing so I resort to Windsurfing. Its pretty rewarding, I dont have to catch any waves, and I could ride forever on it. Id say try wakeboarding too.  Ive been wakeboarding longer then I've been snowboarding and its tons of fun.  Plus all the tan girls in their tiny swim suits makes wakeboarding all that more nicer.

I'm from Argentina. Argentina and Chile have a lot or resorts. I like Las Leñas and Chapelco, both in Argentina.  Cerro Castor is in Ushuaia (Arg) and it is the first that have snow.

You can go to Valle Nevado, El Colorado, La Parva all connected and 1hour aprox from Santiago. Theres also Portillo near Santiago. South is ok also, like Chillan and that stuff, but this year I really dont recommend it. Probably some of those places + bridges pretty damaged by quake so I would just stick to Santiago.

haha no way in hell i would trust myself on a freebord going that fast. i get nervous going 50mph on a longboard.

  • see if there is a "dry slope" near by, I know they were building one in virginia, and I think there are several others open to the public in the US, it's a more expensive version of wet carpet.
I will be in texas over the summer, and since I had to miss this season due to knee surgery I'm pissed.  I'm thinking about building a snow blower, a friend of mine did it last year.

Santiago, Chile is like South America's Denver, CO. 90 minute drive from the city to the mountains and there are 4 resorts up there I think, one is called Colorado, one is Valle Nevado, can't remember the other names.

Apparently, it's different, because they don't get the constant snowfall that the rockies get. They get a couple monstrous week-long storms and tons of dry days, so your timing has to be right. Everything's above the treeline too, the base areas are at some crazy elevation like 10000 feet, so most of the runs are open area.

But it's somewhat cheaper and, like someone else mentioned, a bit of a throwback, with lots of Australians, Europeans, white Brasilians, and Europeans there enjoying the old-school lifts without the pipes, parks, and carved-out groomers that we're used to in the US.

We have a repair dude at my mountain in WY that is from Chile and travels back and forth to always be near the snow, and he told me that Santiago is the place to go. All that info is from him. I've never been there myself. He told me that I'd be let down because the resorts in the US are so much nicer and that WY gets wayyy more snow than his mountain down there.

I've tried to wakeboard, and I could never get up on the board. The rope would just fly out of my hands and my back/hands would hurt like nothing else. Snowboarding is cakewalk to get going, just turn the board downhill LOL

It's High Cascade summer camp for me. Went last year and loved it, going back this year. Here's what I do. My fiance and I take an old board of his, we duck tape the edges, and we get on our trampoline and practice doing flips and grabs and spins and stuff. We also take an old cooler and wet it down on top, and we practice jumping and spinning on it like it's a funbox. There really isn't much else you can do unless you've got the money to fly to chile or somewhere.
 
Also, if you don't already, take up skateboarding. It's not the same, but it's similar in some ways, and it helps with balance and stuff.
