The resorts will be open, you probably won't get waist deep or even ankle deep in powder but if you like park laps April is perfect for that.  Spring riding in Tahoe is amazing slushy and soft.  Get ready to ride some Tahoe corn.  Oh, and bring your tank-top.]]>

If the weather is bad (or good depending on how you look at it) it will take much longer and may not be possible without a long diversion (if 89 is closed).]]>

Although I believe that Heavenly is listed to have 500 more acres, it certainly does not feel that way. Squaw Valley is the best big resort in my opinion and Alpine Meadows would be one of the best smaller ones (if only there weren't so many flat traverses ....)]]>

Then, sometimes there's avalanche control about&nbsp;5 minutes to Kirkwood that might slow you down drastically. the best thing about kirkwood is the amount of open terrain powder on pow days. unfortunately, pow days = snow/ice on the road to get there...]]>

They are just 2 huge mountains that you find something you want at any time, especially if the snow coverage is there. My next level of resorts would be Northstar, Kirkwood, Alpine and Sugarbowl. All the others come after the above. Generally though, you have to pick and choose based on what you want to do and the terrain available at the time. <br /><br />But as others have said, the best is really based on perspectives of each person. How each one feels about their riding, what terrain they like and the conditions they go to those resorts will definitely affect your feelings for each one. Also, knowing the terrain and runs are key to enjoying the place.]]>

    <![CDATA[<strong>Author:</strong> <a href="http://www.trusnow.com/forum/member_profile.asp?PF=63763" rel="nofollow">StayUp916</a><br /><strong>Subject:</strong> 33413<br /><strong>Posted:</strong> Aug/29/2011 at 12:59pm<br /><br />If you can hit Sierra on a good pow day you will find there is no equivalent. &nbsp;Out of the places I have been in Utah, Colorado, and Cali, even locals from those spots agreed, the best Pow day they ever had was at Sierra.<div><br></div><div>Other then that, NorthStar has a sick park. &nbsp;Heavenly has a sweeeeettt backcountry run called Firebreak, best to hit on or shortly after some freshies, and if you have fun with it you can spend a solid hour + riding it. &nbsp;Kirkwood is nice and different, but tucked way back in nowhereland. &nbsp;There is no shitty resort in Tahoe...except maybe Homewood when they dont set up the parks, but for $25 no complaints here. &nbsp;Hit me up when you come out this way.</div>]]>

I have a pass at Kirkwood, but right after a big dump of snow, the 88 is closed pretty frequently in both directions, so you usually have to go somewhere else the first day, and get your fresh tracks a day later, which is actually kind of nice, since you get twice as many freshies for the same storm!<br /><br />I learned to ride at Northstar, and I enjoy their trees, but the mountain gets ridiculously crowded on weekends and sometimes I just want more vertical terrain than they offer.]]>

Its definitely nice to be so close to the casinos but wasn't a fan of the resort in general. Maybe I'll give it another try this season and stick to the Nevada side like everyone says.<br>]]>

The plus is the location is right at South Lake Tahoe next to the casinos, restaurants, and night clubs.</DIV><DIV>&nbsp;</DIV><DIV>kirkwood has great powder, large variety of terrain, view is no different from any other ski resort, never crowded, has lift deals from costco, but is a little behind on the parks. Bad location, it's&nbsp;45 min&nbsp;from civilization.</DIV><DIV>&nbsp;</DIV><DIV>northstar has less variety of terrain, but great park features. not far from truckee. not much of a view. gets very crowded on weekends.</DIV><DIV>&nbsp;</DIV><DIV>diamond peak is a small resort with limited terrain. awsome view of lake tahoe from the summit. cheap. closer to reno if your flying in. i don't remember any parks there. not crowded.</DIV><DIV>&nbsp;</DIV><DIV>alpine meadows gets good powder and a pretty good variety of terrain. not too much for parks. you're basically getting squaw without the crowd.</DIV><DIV>&nbsp;</DIV><DIV>that's all the resorts i went to last year..hope that helps</DIV>]]>

They try for that whole natural vibe. and much agreed on northstar on the wknds.. those lines are a killer. vertical plus is a must, but even then, it can be ridiculous at times.]]>

Great for skiers, not so great for snowboarders. On the flip side, Northstar groomed almost all the blacks. &nbsp;Both of them were insanely busy and had Disneyland-style lines.]]>

    <![CDATA[<strong>Author:</strong> <a href="http://www.trusnow.com/forum/member_profile.asp?PF=58644" rel="nofollow">jac1644229</a><br /><strong>Subject:</strong> 33413<br /><strong>Posted:</strong> Sep/28/2010 at 1:25pm<br /><br />I'm used the resorts in the DC area so everything is GREAT for me.&nbsp; Been out to Tahoe 3 of the last 4 years (but mostly because my timeshare keeps hitting there and not anywhere else but I'm not complaining).<br><br>Kirkwood is nice and quiet compared the the other resorts and is awesome on powder days.&nbsp; The lifts are ancient and slow though and like other people mentioned it can be a hassle to get out to.&nbsp; NorthStar has some cool parks but gets really crowded on the weekends along with Heavenly.&nbsp; I rode Squaw but it was my third year riding when I was out there so I didn't get to tackle much of the mountain.&nbsp; And you have to ride Heavenly at least once for the spectacular view!<br><br><br>]]>

It pays for itself in 4.5 visits. Long runs, great views and as a weekend warrior it was only crowded up their once this season when I went. Parks are well maintained, great food, booze is pricey depending on which bar you go to, but with&nbsp;casinos at the base, restaurants, shopping and the ultimate&nbsp;Fire &amp; Ice at the base it's never a far mission to eat and drink off the mountain.<DIV>&nbsp;</DIV><DIV>Season Pass renewed and even my friends who doubted the mountain that I convinced to ride with me last season are now pass holders.</DIV><DIV>&nbsp;</DIV><DIV>So it looks like me and myke will be boarding together next year.</DIV>]]>

I went there on a sunday, it was so crowded when we were waiting for the Gondolas. but once you got up to the snowboarding area, it gets less crowded as people head to different trails. much shorter wait for lifts]]>

And is only 20 min. away from S.Lake casinos. The runs are perfect length for me. Parks are great. Lots of tree runs. Snow is second to kirk to my experience. People are chill. Groomers are perfect and well maintained.&nbsp;<div>Or, Homewood. Super low key, mostly locals. Cheap. Tree runs are okay, but a little better than Sierra. Never crowded. But a bit small. &nbsp;&nbsp;</div><div>Or, if you're park rat, Boreal is the place to go.&nbsp;</div><div>To me, northstar, and squaw feels the same to me. Its a nice place, but... doesn't do it for me.&nbsp;</div><div>sugarbowl is okay.&nbsp;</div><div>Kirk is too far out in no where for me, but best snow 4sho. Once a while is cool. Definitely a second for me.</div><div>Heavenly is a straight rip-off. The only good thing bout it is walking distance to and from the casinos.&nbsp;</div>]]>

    <![CDATA[<strong>Author:</strong> <a href="http://www.trusnow.com/forum/member_profile.asp?PF=29443" rel="nofollow">ForeRL</a><br /><strong>Subject:</strong> 33413<br /><strong>Posted:</strong> Feb/22/2010 at 9:45pm<br /><br />Kirkwood has the best snow and terrain.&nbsp; If its raining at the other Tahoe resorts it'll probably be snowing at Kirkwood.<br><br>Kirkwood doesn't have the best lodge amenities, its kind of a no frills resort, slow lifts but great terrain, good snow and a lot less people specially on holiday weekends.&nbsp; People are more chill here.<br><br>Squaw is good too and has much more amenities than Kirkwood but it's a lot more crowded this year.&nbsp; <br><br>Sugarbowl is always underrated with their terrain, I've had great pow days at Sugarbowl<br><br>Northstar has definitively built up its amenities since I started but it gets crowded, snow is ok, I think the best park setup. <br><br>I despise Heavenly because of crowds and other personal experiences, at least its close to hotels.&nbsp; Stick to the Nevada side if you go here.&nbsp; <br><br>Alpine is good too and not as crowded as other resorts.&nbsp; Great terrain, its close to Squaw.<br><br>Homewood has some good tree riding and its cheap.<br><br>For terrain:<br>1.&nbsp; Kirkwood (chairs 6, 10, 4)<br>2.&nbsp; Squaw (KT-22, be prepared to wait on a pow day)<br>3.&nbsp; Sugarbowl<br>4.&nbsp; Alpine<br><br>For best overall including amenities<br>1.&nbsp; Squaw (if its snowed recently, but it'll be crowded)<br>2.&nbsp; Kirkwood (bare bones park, best terrain)<br>3.&nbsp; Northstar (best park in Tahoe)<br>4.&nbsp; Sugarbowl/Alpine<br>]]>
