If I get too caught up in the speed of the approach, I sometimes skid brake too close to the lip and end up off axis, leading to a bail. I've found that If I accept the jump, regardless of the approach, I can usually stick the landing, even if I overshoot, or undershoot. I'm still in good position to absorb the impact and ride away. It's worked so far. I fall much less often.

Usually happens after a previous mistake though, like popping too late and landing nose forward, or catching more air than anticipated and thus panicking in the air and messing up the landing. I think all this will be fixed over time though and repetition. I just have to jump MORE and just go for it. Same with anything that you want to get used to.

Problem is when I'm learning new tricks the psych out in the approach makes it hard.
I found the best way to overcome that for me was to do a jump I knew a few times over, when not many people were around and just practice something like methods if I'm learning a new grab or 180's if I'm trying to learn to do a grab with a spin until I had the approach perfect. Takes a bit longer before I'm actually trying the trick, but I seem to get it alot quicker!

I think the most important thing is not trying to jump vertically at the lip of the jump. Many people try SO HARD to jump straight up when they are taking off, and this severely throws off your balance and you can't stay compact in the mid air. If so, you won't be able to do any grabs since you can't bring your knees to your chest... and you will fly very awkwardly and hence the painful landing.

Next time, Just try to do a very small ollie. Therefore, I'm stuck at whatever position I'm in and forces me to land in a less than prefer way, and sometimes, it makes me eat it baaad especially when I'm trying to rotate. If I landed on my lower back, my back will hurt shapely immediately for a couple of days and so will my leg cause of pressure increase of my sciatic nerve. I find that if i just react to whats going on then i am better off than trying plan it out. i dont believe in plans i like to chart direction. if i plan on a bs 360 tail grab then i get all panicked if i dont pull it off in the air, but if i get in the air and end up deciding to do one once i am there than it usually goes down with no problems. mind you key word "usually" i am old and i just let if flow
