It needs to get cold so I can make some snow.  We don't have much left after our last warm up.  Now it's cold enough, but I'm gone for the weekend.  Hopefully next week I can get 48 hours of good cold weather so I can make twice the amount of snow I need.

Just topped my 10' box with HDPE yesterday.  Used 1/8" and was able to countersink the screws.  Just be careful when you do it, I have three holes in the plastic that are useless.  My bro did 1/4" on his box, looked at mine and said he thought he could've saved a couple bucks using 1/8" instead.  Haven't got to use it yet, but it's plenty strong if the box it's on is solid.
 
We haven't had enough cold weather to hold the snow I've made for long, but here's a shot from mid-Nov. (we're in SE MI) of me enjoying the 10' (pre hdpe), the 14 is in the backround.

Problem with all that is I don't think the people I share the building with would be too impressed with a compressor running for a while...
Also, we don't have any water hookups on the outside of our building Angry

As far as working the stairs into it somehow...I think that might just be asking to break something.LOL

On the animal note, that stuff was crazy!  Sad to see animals die because of one dumbass.  Maybe they at least sent some meat to a local homeless shelter or something.  Wild animals are wild for a reason ppl, lets keep em that way.

Ah, yes, just got done reading a few articles about that. Pretty freaking crazy. What I am getting sick of is the people hating on the cops for shooting all the animals. I get it, no one want's to see these animals have to die, but they can't be responsible for the actions of one crazy ass hill folk. @ batman-  yeah, I don't know what the hell I did there either.  I've embedded vids before.  Now I can't even view vids others are posting on here.  Must be a windows things as my pc is always doing something new with itself.
 
Somewhere above in this forum is the reason for the other drop in- our wall ride.  It's about 7' tall by 8' wide (probably doing another 4' wide section for this winter).
Yeah, lattice worked out pretty good.  No carving though, stuff is like ice. 
 
On the not getting much snow thing.  I'm just south of Detroit, we get jack for snow in the winter.  A couple of years ago we decided to start making it ourselves.  It's worked out really well.  This year we're adding a pressure washer and we made a new gun to up the output.  
 
And, as far as a rail- go to home depot and look for a 4x4 pvc post sleeve.  You can cut it in half length wise, put it on a 4x4 (post),  and bam you've got a 16' flat rail.

Can't wait for the snow to fly here in Ohio (like that happens much) Really hoping for a "big" season in Columbus this year. I have a few things in my back yard I have wanted to try for almost 2 years now, but the past 2 winters have been a bust. My calculations are that if we get close to a foot on the ground (can be from different storms) I can do what I want to do in the back.
Currently drawing out plans for a box, but might end up welding a rail instead.

There are a bunch of natural "banks" and with a little shovel work, and the right amount of wetter snow, I could have a hell of a 1/4 pipe in my back yard.

My drop in, only problem is the turn at the bottom. But after that turn it opens up a ton so should till have enough speed to hit something after that turn:

 

It's hard to tell, but the right side is a good sized hill that is cleared out enough to ride, and at the bottom (to the left) is another embankment. This is why I want a big snow this season, I want to make a 1/4 with a side spine.



And for S&G's, I made a little 30 second vid of the back yard. Once December hits, all these slopes really open up. Most plants are gone, and can see things better.

depending on how much snow there is, i have about a 10 foot drop off my roof then down a hill into about a 3 foot high jump i usually build. If there isnt alot of snow then i just put snow going down my deck stairs and down my hill. Also have a 8 foot rail that i set up. This thread is awesome! I was talking with a friend about doing a drop in in my yard last year but we didn't get enough snow in my area to even put a board on. I'm gonna take notes on this stuff and start planning a mini park for next year! check the first page of this post.  i put up plans and some info for snowmaking at home.   google snowathome and you'll find just about everything you need to diy snow.  just check the requirements for whatever setup you do (i.e.- compressor/ pressure washer ratings).  so far i've made all my snow with what the site calls the "sg1",  that one only requires water and an air compressor (which are about $100 @ harbor freight).  i really am looking to upgrade and get a pressure washer too so i can output about 5-8 times the amount i currently do.   that way i only have to blow snow for a few nights and be set, now it takes a couple of weeks to get the park right (when i start from nothing). 

@ mcnack-  we built a 6' 6" tall drop in with about a 45 degree angle (the platform is maybe 4'x4', ramp about 3.5' wide).  the wall is 8' wide and a little over 7' tall. 
i do think it's possible to build a free-standing wall.  parks do it right?  i know none of us has park budgets so we have to cut some costs.  i think you'd kinda have to make an A frame wall basically.  and only sheet the one side with plywood, then the plastic (i think we used "fpr" it's about $25 a sheet at local hardware stores).  i've been thinking about moving our wall which would require it to be free-standing, so if we do, i'll post pics and maybe plans.
 
until then i'll post a pic of my old ass hitting the wall.

that wall ride is rad snowj, it looks like it'd be really fun. I'd love one but don't have a shed to convert...I could modify my fence, but I am pretty sure it would get wrecked eventually. Think it is realistic to build a small wall ride that will stay put for hits? hope photo works...quick shot of what my friend has set up in his yard. Goes to show you don't need a lot of space at all (the photo is snapped with my back against the fence), nor a lot of carpentry skill, or money.

Box is 10' long, and buried in about 2 feet of snow. The top sheet is puckboard! Great stuff, easy to use and didnt break the bank (about $30 with lots left over). The drop in is just shy of 6'. Super fun stuff, worth the few hours it took to get it rideable.

Me and my friends hauled a funbox thing up to this little hill behind my one friends backyard and then we built a tiny little kicker to get onto it. The wood is surprisingly slippery but there's nail heads sticking out of it in some spots. It's really crappy but it's still fun. if i'm lucky i'll get to make some snow tonight and tommrow for a quick session saturday.
the "thing" on the right will be replaced by our 12' when i get it finished.    the rail is 10', the  wall is 8x8,  we should be able to make a hip off that, and hopefully find room for a small kicker.  
update on the snowgun, just modified the plans and built another one for under $20, we'll see how my mod effects it....Wacko

thanks for posting that site, i couldn't remember the other one we went to for design.
for sure, go to aco for the parts, harbor freight for a $90 compressor.  unless ya got the big bucks for these sites setups, it can be done cheap(r) shopping around for the stuff locally.

the above is a plan for an internal mix snowgun.   check out snowathome.  com  for more info on making snow.  they have a tool to help you know when to make snow (basically below 28F, but there are humidity factors).  it takes some messing with the air/water ratio and you should keep an eye on the snowgun until you get the hang of it.  we had a lot of ice puddles while making adjustments. 
some things to consider when making snow-
1. get a good garden hose, around 1/2", all rubber, not a cheapo green plastic one they're a pain to work with in the cold.
2. get a good air hose, again, close to 1/2", not a cheapo again.
 
the gun that the plans are for are for use with just a air compressor and garden hose.  it makes snow, just don't expect a foot of snow to cover a 100 square foot over night.   this gun makes a smaller amount of snow, but with the right temps, you will make snow.
 
if you've got the $ for a pressure washer in addition to a compressor check out the snowathome site, they have plans for a few different setups.
 
yes, use green carpet on your downslopes, the bare wood might hold snow, but not for long.  we used the sideing from an above ground pool at first (it was slick), but then covered it with the green carpet and it held the snow so much better and gave us more speed.

astro turf works.  the best stuff to look for is the actual fake grass.  they have the stuff for like 2.50 a square foot, it's 2-2.5" shag to it.  use that wet/ with snow gel for the summer.
 
in the winter the cheap green outdoor carpet works on your downslope to hold snow.  check out snowathome. com  i think it is.  if nature doesn't want to give ya snow, make it.

i like this post as over the last few winters we've tried to set up something to play on in my tiny ass backyard.  started using the stairs from the pooldeck to a makeshift  wall/hip thingy.  fun, but cramped.  last winter we got rid of the pool, used the deck as a hip/drop in for a couple maybe 8' flats, we made a 9' drop-in from the neighbors garage to our hip (in the pic).  we also figured out how to make our own snow (compressor and garden hose) as the detroit area doesn't get snow in the winter.  we had snow all winter in my yard.   it was good, but cramped.   this year- we pushed back the drop in deck (6'x10' deck, 6' tall) we'll have a 10' pvc rail, a 12' x 1' funbox (split in two for variety).  we're also making a 6.5' drop in for a wall ride/ hip drop in.  downslopes covered with cheap green outdoor carpet to hold snow.  i'll post some pics when we get the building wrapped.  we're using two snow guns this winter to max coverage so we can get going sooner. ]]> Tue, 16 Nov 2010 05:30:48 +0000 http://www.trusnow.com/forum/forum_posts.asp?TID=39903&PID=904702#904702 backyard shreding : I've got a jetty jump pushy... http://www.trusnow.com/forum/forum_posts.asp?TID=39903&PID=904674#904674 Author: illfield3

6"x6"x12' wood decking beam, 2 ratchet tiedowns, 2-5 cinder blocks, and a sheet of plywood to put down on a drop in..like stairs. Unfortunately hasn't snowed yet.
Cost < $30. It's cheap, you can arrange it however you want but it's ghetto, heavy, and probably won't last more than 1 season before freeze/expansion destroys everything.
