^^^^ disagree the forum Destroyer is way to narrow...... Reverse camber is one of those personal preference type things, it is really tough to know how if he will like it.  As far as board options go there are a bunch of them, and tons you can get for under $300.  Since he wants to stay on the mellower end of the flex spectrum he should look for something in the 4,5,6/10 range for flex (this is not the be all end all as far as flex goes, because 2 boards both rated a 4 by the same company can feel very different).  

So basically you are looking for a freestyle deck with a Waist width (WW) of 260mm ish (length is his call, 158-160 I guess, but it is really his call on this one).  

Options:
Capita Midlife (158, WW: 259mm)
GNU Carbon Credit Series BTX (if he wants to try reverse Camber) (159W, WW: 267mm)
K2 Darkstar (Has flat line, no rocker no camber, it's flat) (157W, WW: 261mm)
Rome Machine (157 or 159, WW:260 or 262mm)
Ride DH (159 Wide, WW:261mm)

^^^ These are just a few that popped into my head, but there are literally 50+ options.

He does like the mellow feel of the Recon.  A little  more responsive would be fine, but not too much. 
His boots are size 12 (regular shoe size 13).  He has nice Head bindings that have the ajustable foot plate so he can take full advantage of his big feet.
He has never tried a reverse camber - We keep hearing different things out here on whether or not they are great for the icy stuff we have most of the time.
Cost - Under $300. He doesn't care what model year it is.  Graphics - he likes subtle.  He won't buy one with "weird stuff" (Overtly violent/gangsta/sexist) (Mom's so proud) Would have bought a stomper at the end of last year if it weren't for the look.
We clean and wax regularly, so he gets good speed from whatever base he has.

The forum recon is their lower end board (not that this is a bad thing), it has an extruded base, a really mellow flex and is a directional twin (or Twin-like as Forum calls it).   Does he want a board that feels the same but is longer?  What size are his feet?  What size do you think he wants to size up too? How does he feel about Camber/Reverse camber? What is 'not a lot of money'?

My son loves his Forum Recon - The problem is he's now 6'1" 190 lbs and it's only a 156W.  He is a laid back rider, mostly free ride in mid-west crud.   He will also be teaching beginners this year. 
 
I'm wondering if his old board would be usefull when he's teaching - Does a small board give you comtrol for stopping/going slow with little ones, etc or is it just too light and soft?
 
For his new board we are not going to spend a lot of money, so a model that's a year or two old would be good.  Any suggestions?
