I fully recommend handmade brands, I think theyre trustworthy and the boards are of higher quality in regards to finishing touches.
I think arbor, smokin, stepchild, GNU and neversummer are pretty damn awesome. European companies are Allian and Rossignol etc, from what I know some (if not all) Rossignol boards are handmade in spain.
Personally I wouldnt usually trust boards that are made in china.. most major brands have most of their boards made in factories situated in china. Since china is pretty much the dodge-est country in Asia (dont call me racist.. im an asian too lol) I wouldnt put my trust into their stuff even though everyones pretty much living in a pile of made-in-china stuff..

but being new to snowboarding i can understand how difficult it can be when choosing a board.. because there are SO MANY to choose from, its quite overwhelming.
Good way to start is to read the basic types of boards and what kind of rider are you.
