So true.  While I'm happy to see the warm sun more, I'm sad to summerize my board for the season.  I miss riding the little guys already!  They shall be waxed and stored for some sad months.

Haha I agree as well! I don't mind sitting in traffic, crowds, and limited terrain at all. I just spend my time lapping the park all day chill'n. Worth it to me!

YEAH!! That was such great news when they announced that. I mean...they've gotten TONS and TONS of snow on their closing week and closing day. I'm glad the locals nagged and got them to reopen for the weekend. I will definitely be at breck. Hopefully I'll see some of you fellas there!

I am telling you, for the extra $6 stay at La Quinta (just do a google search for coupons).  It's a nicer hotel and you have Old Chicago on the main level.  I have never seen a Luxury Inn that was anything close to Luxury.  This one included and I have stayed in most hotels in Summit...but I am also picky when it comes to hotels.  I stay in them more than I would like.

that's pretty much how i feel

i usually travel with a bigger group during the season and we always get a house/condo for dirt cheap after you split the costs

this time it's only me and my brother, give me a bed and a working shower ;)

$50 a night plus tax:

Sounds like he is spending Monday night in Denver and Tuesday night in Silverthorne.

A quick search on kayak.com shows several hotels (none of which has a good rating) for $52 - $70 in the area, although I have never stayed at any of these joints.  I guess as long as the room is clean nothing else matters.

Weird. When I was looking for Saturday nights it was always $99 for the LQ and $89 for the Days Inn.

$65 w/ tax using a coupon code at LQ silverthorne.

@Superorb  - maybe 4-5" nothing special.  Just cold and blowing.

@CT - I was just looking for a quick few park runs.  Did that for a couple hours and went home.  I think the season my be done for me.  Give my body a few weeks to rest before starting wakeboarding and mtn biking for the summer.

Damn, I wish I had known, I would have tried to talk you into going to Keystone.  Our friends were at Copper on 3/29 (and then Keystone on 3/31 and Vail on 4/2 - they wanted to try several resorts).

We had a great time at Keystone, my kids really liked hitting the small side trails through the trees off the main runs.  Not knowing the terrain/layout I had some issues on a few deeper tree runs but managed to get through.  My family really had a good time in the baby park - Freda's Incubator.

I live out by DIA and there's maybe an inch on the ground. Is it worse by you? Ideally I'd want highs in the low 50s for Denver and highs in the high 20's and tons of snow for the mountains all season long.

I would expect it to be spring conditions! I don't think it's much different from Keystone or anything. It can get windy sometimes, so I'd check the forcast before I head up. Yeah staying near Keystone and Silverthorne will be a nice short drive to A-basin too!

After this weekend when Breck closes too, I'd expect the crowds to come to Abase.

It really depends.  If there is great snow, it'll be the only place left for those with the vail resorts pass.  If it's a typical day, could be you and another 100-200 people.

You have two pretty good choices.  As long as basin keeps their bowls open it will be good riding.  If you go to WP/MJ and the Cirque is open, there isn't much better riding in the state.  You will have to drive to basin as there is no local lodging, but I am sure there will be some good deals in Keystone (only 7 miles away).

and as far as the WP/MJ goes, if you want good terrain you are on the MJ side, if you want a terrain park you go to the WP side.  Dark Territory is their bigger terrain park and requires you watch a short video and pay an additional fee (only required once per year) and you get access.  The rest of their terrain parks aren't really worth it.

I really don't know how to respond to that without sounding like a jerk but wp/mj has a lot to offer and calling it less than a real mtn would suggest ignorance.  Fact is abasin is a great mtn. But so is wp. If you plan to spend more than a day, abasin doesn't make the most sense. If the snow is great you'll have fun at either place.  But to be honest I'd avoid abasin just due to the crowds you will likely see.  Wp has had more snow and better conditions most of the season.

WP has the longest flattest runs & lengthy cat walks. What they consider a blue run is a glorified green at any other resort. I understand run grading is subjective to each individual resort but the WP side is not very fun for snowboarding. Granted a good time can be had anywhere but WP is not much fun to ride unless you stay on the Mary Jane side of the mountain. Ride Keystone For Some Real Fun!!! Smile

Keystone closes TODAY..Dead

And I agree with nfinite....A-basin is gonna be SUPER CROWDED bc all the other front range resorts are starting to close. That's when half of denver and all their moms and dads head to A basin...simply bc most of them have the epic local passes, etc.

I know! We were less than a mile from the exit to the resort too. He was just rushing...and ruined his morning.

Went up to Keystone today....kinda icy and slushy...but outback peak was pretty sweet! Sad that the closing date is approaching extremely quick.

Also, on i70 today after the twin tunnels, I was being tail gated by a corolla all the way down the steep part of the highway....and then he past me.... only for me to pass him up at the end of the hill since his car was in the ditch. geez drive safe everyone.

Sucks for him, but I'm glad he got what was coming to him for driving like a jackass.

Yeah, I said the same thing. Then I felt bad right away. He was tailing me, and then passed me up with some snow on the road.

Season isn't over yet! Just spent the day at Breck adventuring up to Imperial and did some hiking to put down some extremely fresh tracks! The snow condition between the trees are still extremely awesome too. It was slightly warm at the base...but snow came in and out!

We were planning on going, but then Kim got a job screening interview thing at 2pm so we're stuck. And I'll likely have to work Sunday so that may be out too :(

:( aww that's okay. Hopefully you guys will be able to make it up to the mtn sooner or later! I was looking at the $35 shuttle that runs from Denver to Keystone...so tempted.

Yeah this is true, I've parked there once...but only because I drove and everyone else in the car split the cost of parking. But I get it, I always get super lazy to take the shuttle to north parking lot after a long day of shredding.

Oh you paid for the super expensive lot! Yeah there's a huge free lot...and a north satellite lot with a really quick shuttle! All free.
