That's pretty impressive all the same! I think the general rule of thumb is aim high for a first pitch (especially from the mound itself). Rather than pitch it 6 feet before it hits the infield grass. All in all sounds like a pretty overwhelming (in a good way) day!

2 things really surprised me, first, that he agreed to do it.  Second is how composed he was while waiting, I figured he would be really nervous and have 2nd thoughts.  Nope, he was quite cool and composed, more than me...

And no, Stafford didn't injure his shoulder.  I was really hoping he would throw left-handed to protect his throwing shoulder...

This is absolutely amazing!!! What a great experience for him.
I got to do this once at a Seattle Mariner's game, as an adult (picked at random from the state employees that bought tickets for that game).  We had just the right number of people in our party, 5.  So very lucky.
It was funny because they looked at me and told me that I didn't have to be on the pitchers mound if I didn't think I could throw it the entire way.  I said I'd be just fine (as I played softball in college just a few years earlier).  I ended up throwing it to the mascot... He didn't see it too well, it bounced off his head and hit a camera man in the leg.

There are just some experiences in life you just never forget.  I hope that is one for your kid!!!

Nice, smash the mascot and hit the camera man, gotta make your one pitch count.

It's awesome that you guys got to throw out pitches, stuff like that never happens to me. I've never even caught a foul ball in all the games I've been to. /jealous

Heck yah! That's what makes the games more fun to watch! Unlike the other sports leagues of late, when ya might see only one flash in the pan before it's subjected to a second round smolder.

Ultimate Frisbee was a ton of fun, but yah i haven't played since high school gym either.
And so long as this thread doesn't start on Frisbee Golf, it's all good! What a pointless activity.

Don't worry J. There is another thread on that.  Saw it show up on the recent topics in the board room last night.

I've never done it myself, but I guess you can turn anything into an activity if you can have a beer in the other hand.  I think that is the point.

Wow, what's with the disc golf hate? Have you guys ever even tried it? On a legit course?

It's one of the cheapest, most accessible sports out there and it's a lot of fun as well. Plus you don't need anybody else around to play it. I've played just about every sport there is and I loved playing disc golf.

I love it, it's the ultimate 1970's sports day: Horse racing and boxing.  I hate to break it to you, but Mayweather is going to win, easily.  Don't come to me for Derby picks though, unless you want to lose money.

Hope that's not a PPV match. Otherwise you'll be best served watching it online the next day. Wouldn't take long to DL either since so many "primetime fights" haven't gone more than a round or two.

interesting, i was censored earlier...anywho, i think cotto deserved the win, based on what i thought that he was landing more hits, but mayweather just looked like he was toying with him in the end...

oh well, doesn't matter, one of them has to go and serve a jail sentence later ;)

Not sure what fight u were watching. I had most the rounds to mayweather. Cotto did give him his biggest challenge but mayweather was too much. At least the fight was entertaining.

There has been so much posturing between Mayweather and Pacquiao, who knows if they will ever fight.  First, it is about the drug testing, then it is about the purse, now it's all Bob Arum's fault... I think they will eventually fight because there is too much money to be made.  We'll see if the jail sentence affects Floyd

Ill believe it when they both step in the ring.

But Mosley needs to step out. Out boxed by a guy half his age it was hard to watch. I kinda feel sorry for the guy.

Played my first softball game of the season tonight (men's beer league). Coed starts tomorrow. We gave em a sound beating (17-3, ended on mercy rule), but  we've been playing together for years, and they just threw a team together. Not a bad squad :).
Our first baseman hyperextended his left quadriceps stretching for a play at first (he did the splits.. but didnt mean to). He then pulled it again trying to get up and gather the ball after it rolled past him. Had to be carried to his car by a couple of the other guys. Hope he's ok, but he's definitely looking like hes gonna be out a few weeks.

^^^ Ummmm, I think regular-season NFL and college games blow basketball and hockey championships out of the water guys.

I usually think the slowest sports time of the year is right after March madness.  The end of the NBA season coupled with Spring Training does not get it done for me.  But at least the Masters was going off

I wish I could take credit for that but my son was asked to throw out the first pitch when we stopped by the Tigers Kids Club booth.  Just random luck.

I'm taking him to the game against the Pirates on Saturday, I hope he doesn't expect to throw out the first pitch again...

I agree with the time right after nba/nhl playoffs being the worst time in sports, but at least it's usually the best weather. I think the best time in sports is significantly skewed by whatever your favorite sport is. I love NFL/NCAAF playoffs with basketball going on myself.

I kinda wish I was a soccer/futbol fan, that Man City finish to win the EPL was epic.  Even though I have no real allegiance, I definitely felt good for their fans, winning their first title in 45 years in insane fashion

Assuming you're talking about the game with 2 goals in extended time, the post seems a little delayed! But i did catch the end on SC, and that was indeed pretty frickin awesome.

yeah, not enough of a game sample to really be convincing of being worthy of a big contract. but he probably won't be asking for a big contract anyways. the harvard grad is smart to figure out that he's not going to be getting that fat check.
