Considering this is my 3rd season riding and I'm in my mid-40's I think anyone who isn't completely clumsy (and delicate) can learn how to snowboard. I wasn't a skier prior to snowboarding, I think I skied around 4 or 5 times about 10 years ago. I did skateboard a lot when I was a young lad and spent many summers at the skate park although the last time I skateboarded was at least 25 years prior to snowboarding.
So, my point is a person in his/her 40's can take up snowboarding.

Man I'm 26 right now, and I don't know if my knees are going to make it to 40. It sounds like a bowl of rice crispies every time I stand up. Hopefully by 40 I'll have some sweet robot knees.

i would definitly recommend you to try it.
everybody gets home with bruces and missing body parts. like some said before. once you get over the point of falling every 5 seconds, and start to link turns it is so much fun. if you give it a realy good effort i would say you could be at that point in a single ( good ) day. just dont be a female genitals and complain about pain. good luck |

I have a few buddies in their forties that board and one is in his mind 50's!
Give it some time to learn though as it is a completely different feeling than skiing. |

Wow, this thread was dead for almost a year before you revived it... I think the OP, who created the thread 1,404 days ago, isn't taking any more advice.

I'm 47 and just started, have 6 trips to the slopes so far and loving it, the problem is that every fall hurts and I fall a lot.
Is a shame that the season is almost over when I'm starting the get a hang on turning. |

I got my dad started snowboarding when he was just under 50. Now he is 60 and still goes about 40 times a year. Pretty impressive really, considering he has a pacemaker. He is way better than me now. As long as you have the time and commitment, you will improve and your body will get in the shape it needs to.

Damn that's awesome! I hope my body will allow me to board at that age or at least to be able to board with my kids someday.

Some of us 'less young' folks can still get out there and shred. i'm 51 & have been riding for 14 - 15 years. I can still ride as hard as i want too & my body / legs are holding up great. There is hope for all of you little whipper snappers to be riding for decades & decades to come!!!
