Yessir. Everytime we hit the mountain I tell my buddy we need to buy a plane just for that. And going to the UP. On another note, I'm getting sick of this 50 and rain crap. Turning back to winter up there though so that's a plus. Be even better if I could get some time off work.

Rode Pine Knob today, not crowded at all which was surprising considering most of the schools were closed for MLK Day. Became really windy and we called at a day around 2:30.
Heading up for a weekend tour of northern MI this weekend: Friday - Boyne Mountain Saturday - Boyne Highlands Sunday - Crystal Mountain (my least favorite) Monday - Caberfae Peaks

The parks in my backyard. Check my pic I built that handrail also the pic of me hitting the jump is just left of the rail. I built a drop in up into the trees. Me and my buddies dug a huge hole/half pipe for the landing. Now all we need is some more snow!

Checked out Bittersweet today for a couple hours in the morning the snow was okay and they had about 70% of the terrain open. There was nobody there and there were no terrain park features out yet. Still a lot of fun as there were only a few people there.

That is a solid idea it won't cost Vail resorts that much and they will some how connect the epic pass to the Brighton pass and get people to come out to ski at their other resorts. Also I great way to spread your name in the midwest for cheap.

Did you guys all hear about Mt Brighton being bought by Vail resorts?!
Curious on your guys opinions and what you think will come of it. If you don't know anything about it, here is an article for reference: http://www.crainsdetroit.com/article/20121207/NEWS01/121209898/mt-brighton-purchased-by-vail-resorts# |

It does get crazy busy up there but its kinda worth sacrificing considering the price lol. I probably gonna end up heading up with the GF for a day of shredage. Either way nubs nob and the highlands are both killer options if you don't want to ride the Boyne Mtn. |

It might be busy but most of the runs should be open so ppl can spread out.. and it's not just for Boyne Mt it's for the Highlands too, so it's not bad as long as they have a good # of runs open. Snow snow snow in the forecast too!! |

^ If by "nearby" you mean southeastern MI (Alpine Valley, Pine Knob, Mt Holly), the answer is no. They have not been hit with snow yet and it's too warm to fire up the snow guns.
Head north, young man!

Bohemia is like no other place in the midwest. It's totally worth the drive. I think it's worth the 10hr drive for me. If you see they are getting a good snow storm get up there! Lift tickets are only $54 if you didn't get the pass. |

Is Bohemia worth drive from Mpls? How does it compare to Lutsen? (few hours closer). I am debating on getting 99 pass, would pay for itself as long place is actually worth the drive from the cities for a long weekend.

So UofM has this OA program that takes trips. This winter they're doing a Bohemia trip for $275. 5 nights in a yurt and transportation. Doesn't include food or lift. I was thinking of trying to get our little bachelor party to go on that one.....then I found out there's no drinking aloud on OA trips. That ain't going to happen with our group. Plus, I can put together something cheaper if we have 6-8 of us. So we might be hitting Bo after all this season.

I really want to. As of now I have no plans to, but I do have the white gold card so I know I have a lift paid for already, so I'm trying to figure out how I can work it. I really need my Bo fix this season.

^ Although I had planned on going I did not make it. I spent most of the late-morning-early afternoon waiting in the doctor's office for an ear issue, dammit.
Sounds like your time was spent well - getting the Lab ready for a new season. Are you going to Mt. Bohemia for PowPowPalooza 4? 1/25 - 1/27.

Anyone hit the BCS jam in Novi? I didn't make it. Instead I opted to work on the Lab. Got the old main drop in down and most of the new one up. Now it's decking the drop in, putting the powder pak on, and cleaning up the yard. A few more weeks and we should be ready to rock

I need to try to get to that one. I really need to ride. I just picked up enough powder pak from Misfit lab for a run in the hood lab. Not a well covered run, but enough to work with. I won't have it set up for a couple weeks, but soon we'll be year round round here

^ Sweet. My buddy picked up our WG Cards last week (or 2 weeks ago? don't remember) and I used the $20 off $100 coupon today at Sun & Snow to buy the WiFi Backpack with Remote.
I'm taking my family to Boyne Mtn Jan 2 - 5. After that I'm going to schedule a couple weekends to hit Nubs, Highlands, Mtn, Cab and maybe try a few of the western MI hills. Post up the dates you will be hitting northern MI and I'll see if I can swing those dates, too. |

Got a couple white gold cards today. Now I just need to find time to use them. I know we'll be doing a mid-January trip to nubs and boyne highlands (sometime around the 13th) if any of you guys are in the area at that time we'll have to meet up. I don't know if I'll make Bohemia this season, but I'd sure like to try.

So, this year since the O park isn't the opark anymore the Don Thomas railjam doesn't have them as a sponsor. The setup is going to be different from the past couple years. They're going with a setup I think I can handle better. Pretty sure it's the one used at a jam in Grand Rapids last winter. Here's a pic of the setup.

Did snowboarding start in Michigan? Here's an article I was reading...
Pando Winter Sports Park, near Rockford, was the first ski area in Kent County (1960), but more impressively was the first area in Michigan to allow “snurfers” and then snowboarders to have the run of the area, hosted the first ever snowboard competition (won by Jake Burton Carpenter) and was also the first area in Michigan to install a tubing hill. By the way, the “snurfer,” predecessor to the snow board, was invented in Michigan in 1965 by Sherman Poppen of Muskegon. He cobbled together the first one when he saw his daughter sliding down hill standing on her sled. Her friends all wanted their own, so he built several with improvements. He patented the device in 1968, the year the first “World Snurfing Championship” was held at Blockhouse Hill in North Muskegon. He licensed the concept to Brunswick who made and sold about a million snurfers between 1966 and 1976 when the relicensed the product to JEM which produced them into the 1980′s. Snurfers had no bindings, just traction pads. In 1979 Jake Burton Carpenter of Vermont showed up at the championship with a board customized with bindings, He won in the Open Division which allowed modified boards. In 1980, the championship moved to Pando where it was again won by Carpenter. |

^Damn, they were there forever. You've been to the R.O. park/store haven't you? That place is so nice. I really need to get out there soon. Last time I was my son broke his ankle. It was my first time skating in years, but was such a nice park I went out and got a new board.
@CT- yeah, super convenient. I have something to be out there for on Tuesday, but I don't know if I'll brave the traffic two days in a row for that. Plus it'll cut into Riley's playtime. She gets cranky without quality time.

Just saw that Modern Skate & Surf closed here in GR. They had a sick skate park and good snowboard gear. There were the only retailer of Union, Capita and NS in GR.... as far as I know. Sad.. Only Lansing and Royal Oak locations left. Sad

Not to worry steezy, there's a showing in Ann Arbor next Wednesday Sept. 19th at Sun and Snow from 5-7.
Got that CT? Hey, you guys think we'll see chips this season? He just kind of dropped off the face of the forums end of the season. He never did make it to the Hood Lab.
