Topic: How to earn member points- Posted: May/01/2010 at 3:21pm |

so why do the coupons for a free t-shirt expire? Thats terrible! Why cant we just use the code with our next purchase, whenever it may be, so that we dont have to pay just to ship a shirt? I personally would love a Sierra t-shirt (not a fan of any of the other brands per say) but I am not going to pay just to ship one. I hate when retailers want you to pay to promote their company! I love Sierra, but come on people, let make this easier on all of us. NO EXPIRATIONS ON FREE GEAR COUPONS!!!

Since I´m new to Sierra and all this I am stoked, that you guys reward people for just writing in the forums.
So on that side I´m truly thankful to receive such a coupon one day or another. But I really have to second greenmnsmsi´s thoughts on the expiration of the coupons. For to get me the shirt shipped would be more expensive than for you guys in the states to just order it.
I would love to use the coupon when I place my next order!

I agree here... I got my free t-shirt coupon from forum posting right after i'd spent a G buying all new snowboarding gear; no money to pay to ship a t-shirt right now. I'm effectively getting penalized for bad timing on my 200.

Really? Complaining about a free t-shirt coupon that expires? It is a business not a charity.

OK, so you are saying its good business practice to have an expiration date? It makes no sense to have one, other than making a person pay to ship just a shirt, and Sierra employees to work to ship just a shirt. Not to mention wasted shipping materials, fuel, and other shipping consumables!!! I thought we are trying to go GREEN here people!

No, you're trying to be green and all high morality about it. Its a free t-shirt, be grateful instead of arrogant. Are you going to complain about expiration dates and having to pay free shipping on bindings, goggles, snowboards later? Where does it stop?

are you guys really that desperate for a free tee? no one is forcing you to "order" the tee. its just a little something extra for shopping here and participating in the community (things that i hope you actually enjoy doing and not see as a chore). did you really buy your gear here or post on the forums just so you can get a tee?

The whining about getting FREE, yes that's FREE stuff is sickening at this point. It's a reward for practically doing nothing. If you don't like it don't use the code plain and simple. I would gladly give back the stuff I've received from the Rewards Program to put an end to all this BS.

Seeing the 30% off for board members was a big part of it yes, absolutely. Doesn't mean I don't enjoy it though

Look, having an expiration date forces the recipient to use it, if they choose to do so. Forcing the recipient to use it might make some of them go buy more stuff to be eligible for free shipping (since people don't seems to like to pay shipping). If people buy more stuff from Sierra, it will compensate the loss in revenue of the t-shirt or other free stuff they give out. Also you need to consider that business makes money when people buy
things they want and not what they need. the free coupon gives more of
an incentive for the recipient to buy more stuff they want, thus
creating a revenue stream for Sierra. I am not saying this is Sierra's business model or anything of that matter, but personally I think it makes perfect sense from a business stand point to have an expiration date for a free gift. If they don't have an expiration on coupons, they will lose a lot more money, since there probably are people who don't use it. Even though Sierra is community oriented, they are still in the business in making money, not losing it. Concerning being green, there is a responsibility from the consumer and the seller. I think Sierra does its best job to be green. If the consumer wants to use the free t-shirt coupon just to get that t-shirt, then the responsibility will lie on the consumer, not the seller. As another member states it:

So I don't see why you are blaming Sierra for not being green, the person who isn't being green in your situation is the consumer, not Sierra.

someone probably flagged one of your reviews as not useful and you lost the points for those reviews

I don't think that they have added those points because I haven't gotten mine either. I wasn't really worrying about it because I'm only due about 50 points but wow man you bought a lot of gear!

once you're there, the discount applies to all your future purchases. You'll see the price of the item and then the discounted price for you.

Yeah.. you guys are right. There should be expire date on the coupon, but how come I cannot find any Sierra brand men's tshirt? I am willing to pay the shipping if there is a man's tshirt thought.

Message from Little Ole Me If you have a code that's going to expire, wait until
we get the restock, then Private Message me with your code and I can
extend your expiration date accordingly. Don't send me a message
yet though, as I don't know exactly when these will be in. Please be
patient and we'll take care of you when we get the restocks. |

i don't really care about the expiry for the t-shirt coupon. I was more interested in the discount for future purchases. If I don't use the free tshirt coupon I will just post it (is that against any rules here?)

i think it says that you need them to give you back the privilege back in order for you to gain that ability again, but l have never heard of them actually giving it back. Long story short, no forever

You need to get in contact with a Sierra Staff Member explaining your situation. Only a staff member could lift up the exemption for you. If you understand why your reviews were flagged, then I don't see why they won't give you a second chance. There are few threads floating around the forums that talk about what are good reviews. I say you should read up on them and get in contact with a staff member and hopefully they will reinstate it for you.

i just read in a different thread that you can extend your coupons deadline when sierra restocks. all you have to do is msg the staff when they get more sierra shirts.

That's pretty sweet!
It took me ages to find out how the points work though... I think there should be a link to this info on the website somewhere (maybe on the daily giveaway page).
Or maybe (and more likely) there is already one and I just couldn't find it because it was just too dam obvious.

Maybe in addition to board giveaways you could have drawings or contests to award member points. You might have to re-tier the discount to point ratio, but I think the members would be into it.

When you get enough points to go to the next level e.g Liftop to skibum do you have to buy something for you to get your shirt and do you have to pay for postage?
