Taking my first trip this year and I need a bag that is good for airline travel. I have two boards , 1 binding, and somegear. I also want to be able to get my girlfriends skiis in there too with polls. Can anyone recommend a bag for this?

not a big fan of the company but i have beaten the hell out of my Burton Wheelie bag from last year and it's great. i forget what they call this year's.
it has removable compartments, room for a bunch of boards and gear. extra pockets on top and another long one on the bottom. nice plastic reinforcement on either end, i've never had any damage. this has been a thread before... i think, but i can't find it. |

that is sexy stuff. i force myself to pretend that Analog is a different company because i love the clothing. i have the Analog Black Hawk Down Jacket from a couple of years ago and i love the hell out of it. snazzy clothing, i've never bought any other outerwear besides that jacket (still the most expensive piece of clothing i have ever purchased and it was on sale!) pack all of your outerwear and as many of your clothes as you can fit and your stuff should prbably be alright. you want to try and find a way so nothing gets bent or banged, wheelie bags have some reinforcement in the ends and are sort of padded all the way around. i have a board bag and i personally would never trust a disgruntled airline employee with it. I noticed some bags have hard plastic casing on the ends. Is it necessary to have or is just for added protection + keeping the bag stiff so you can wheel it without it folding?

i believe it's partially to retain stiffness, but mostly to protect the ends because they are most likely to slide up or down and bump into things. when i pack boards to ship in a box, i always bubble wrap the tips. the edges are less likely to come in contact with anything hard. and it works well. i got my wheelie bag out of stOrage yesterday and that thing has taken a beating, but my boards are all still happy. |

Well for a guy like me that dont have money to buy a big wheelie bag for flight trips... I will just tell them that they have to post a ''handle with care'' sticker on it then it wont take that much beaten i hope...
But maybe i can put alot of sot things like my pants and shirts like that to protect it a little

seriously you need to pack it well. the carriers i think are trained to save their backs and not bend over. everything gets thrown. have you ever watched out the window at them loading things on the plane? it's horrifying. i would say though, if you can afford a plane ticket and overpriced room, you can't afford not to protect your stuff. ive seen a guy check in his snowboard and bindings before.
...... without a bag or anything.
i wouldnt trust the carriers with an unpadded bag. think of it as an investment. $60-70 for your $250+ board. |

I'm using Burton's Wheelie Gig Bag. It's as padded as their best bags but without some of the extra inside compartments. Seems like it will hold up. I wouldn't spend more because the baggage handlers are going to do their best to trash it.
Don't put Handle With Care on you bag - It's a death wish!!!
Use bubble wrap on the ends.

Dakine bags are hot, $65 sounds like a sweet price if you are close to them.
If not, I would suggest something from SierraTradingPost since they have a ridiculous $20 off $50 coupon right now if you use Google Checkout. They also have some 10% off $110 coupon (check www.bensbargains.net). I bought the High Sierra AT Wheeled Double Snowboard Bag: http://www.sierratradingpost.com/product.aspx?baseno=71881&CN=High-Sierra-AT-Wheeled-Double-Snowboard-Bag They have another one that is just under $50, so if you buy something to pad the order you could be walking away with a bag for $30 plus shipping. |
