So even though the bull won this fight it was killed by the other matadors but he got his shot in.

Julio Aparicio, one of Spain's most famous matadors, was gored in the throat today during a bullfight. The horrific injury has left him in critical condition:

"[The horn] went though the tongue and penetrated the roof of the mouth, fracturing the jawbone," one of the medics who worked on Aparicio told AFP news in Madrid.

[UPDATE: After two operations, it appears leading surgeon Maximo Garcia Pedros has saved Aparicio's life. The bull, however, was quickly killed by other matadors.]

The incident took place during the Festival of Saint Isidro, considered to be the most important event in the bullfighting calendar, at the Plaza de Toros las Ventas bullring, which can seat up to 24,000 people.

That's nasty.  Neck injuries always freak me out for some reason.  I don't know it the matador is at 0 though.  The bull has blood all over it already.
Crazy traditions in other cultures.  Why can't we all just snowboard?

I can't feel sympathy for this guy.  Trying to kill a bull that has already been beaten down and attacked with speers is not manly.  I'm going to stop there before I start ranting off on how horrible I think this "sport" is.

Totally agree, I love it when these 'athletes' (I use that term loosely) get gored or trampled.  The bull always gets killed in the end anyway but at least the bulls get to go down swinging once and awhile.

I would never eat anything that has blood flowing threw it.

Plus why was that bull all bloody I saw a post from someone that said it was attacked with speers. WTF is that all about. Could someone explain, since when was it okay to speer a bull for fun.

Side note horse racing is also ridiculous.

holy crap!!! i've seen some pretty bad bull fighting pictures but this is just awful...

i even saw a guy get gored in the stomach right in front of me during running of the bulls and i think this is the only thing that compares to how bad that was...

and the fact that this guy survived is absolutely amazing!!

bullfighting isn't just about waving a cape around and dodging them. eventually the matadors spear the bulls.
