Brian Head, Utah

So I am trying to put together a trip this December, maybe right after Christmas.

I love in Socal and the people I will going with live in Vegas.  I was thinking of going to Brian Head but haven't heard too much about the place.  I was thinking there because it is relatively close to Vegas and looks like it will have a decent amount of snow. 

Can anybody tell me specifics since the website still has summer stuff up.  What are the ticket prices holiday/non-holiday?

I was checking out the trail map and it looks like there is a lot of variety.  Almost everybody will be a beginner except for me so that's a bit of a bust.

Any tips on where to stay, etc.?

a buddy of mine rode there all of last year because he was at school in Southern Utah... He loved it! It is a lot smaller than the average Utah resort, but they do get quite a bit of snow as the season progresses (they currently have a 66" base and all 8 of their lifts are open). They usually have a fun park set up with a variety of features... and it's REALLY cheap to ride there.  Their website has all of the prices etc... it's not just summer stuff. As far as places to stay go... they have a cool Vegas Shred& Bed package and then a condo rental listing on their HOT DEALS page.

those are some damn good prices!  I've been wanting to do a loop hitting Mt. Hood, Sun Valley, Pow Mow, Mammoth and Tahoe.  With prices that cheap, I'm going to have to remember this place.  I'm liking local hills a lot more recently.  just a better feel.  I loved Cypress Mountain, I'd probably hit it up before I hit Whistler again. 

would you say its more geared to skiiers? Or were you just not going fast enough in some areas?

If anyone here is considering a trip to Brian Head, please, please consider going to Eagle Point outside of Beaver instead. Eagle Point re-opened this year under new management and has amazing facilities, a great kid ski school and great riding in the Tushar Mountains. The entire backside of the mountain is steep, long blacks and provides easy access to what I hear is amazing backcountry terrain. I went there with the fam on Dec 30th and the mountain was virtually empty and full of Utah powder. Their terrain park is up, complete with a quarter pipe.

The mountain does have some weird things (lifts in wrong places, needing a snowcat to get you to some of the runs - but for free) but for a new resort its pretty cool.

Brian Head's lifts close if there is a 2mph breeze. Go try Eagle Point instead.

On a complete tangent...this is the most ironic resort I've ever heard of.  My husband's name is Brian and his friend calls him "Head" as a nickname....damn, nearly spooky!

Eagle Point is worth the trek. They don't really have cat skiing per se; their lifts are in weird places so in order to get to five or six runs on the far side of the mountain they use a cat. But, because you have to take a cat to these runs they're hardly used (as are most of the runs at Eagle Point).
The Tushar Mountains are beautiful. Ride them.

if you cant get rid of them SoCalryder trying posting in the Utah Craigslist. i think st. george is the closest one. i was able to sell some anytime passes to BH on there.

btw, when does BH close its slopes?
