screw it, im starting it now. people have been starting to slide around.
locally...... this is stroller white next to the mendenhall glacier.. took this from my house. its peak is 4754 feet. i would say the snow is down to around 3500 and getting lower every day. my local ski area eaglecrest has also got a dusting.. the peak is 2600 feet. i should be on snow within a couple weeks! ![]() and here are the first videos i have seen from this year mt rose in tahoe and mammoth |

our elevations are lower but our mountains are bigger. everything starts at sea level instead of 5k feet or more, so..
the base is 1200

Ahhh, that makes more sense.
I heard my resort was supposed to get a dusting sometime this week, and im going up on saturday to the "fall festival". Last year they opened Oct 14th... And the past three years we have been first open on the East, and have been open for Halloween shredding too. Hopefully they can do it again, Sunday River. |

Probably two months yet 'til we get anything worth talking about here. The local mound says they've got guns on the hill ready for cold weather. Wild Mt. is known for being open well before everybody else around here and will probably start blowing their white stuff all over within a few weeks. Too bad it's frickin' 75+ degrees here right now, October 7th, in Minnesota. WTF.

Indian Summer has potential in the long run..... but it's blueballs (ankle draggers) right now look at the long range forecast. I'm hoping for a dump of massive proportions....besides the one I just took. Closing down the city for a week or so would be rad. We're due for it. |

I got two days of riding in. I hiked Killington on Saturday the 16th and 17th. I did the Killington Peak on Saturday and hung out on Snowdon on Sunday because there was less activity going on over there, and it was less tracked. The snow was really wet and heavy, but it was super fun to get out there. Sunday it was really nice because it was sunny in the morning. I love snowboarding!

my charlie 58 from last year. i was reminded how much i love it. just rides so well in any condition. im not going to ride it this year as i have the new 58, but i rode it today because its the most rock-board board i have. all i have right now is that one, the new 58, the 2010 164, and my fish.. no "regular" boards yet, but im stoked i rode that one regardless. just rides soo good.
i dont care about the base, its mostly just the stringy things but i did get some gnar rock scratches going across the base from edge to edge from stopping.

Ive already gone snowboarding three times.. in one week. I <3 Utah.
First day we went to snowbird first and made a jump off of this road.. Eventually getting kicked off right before we finished building up to a jib.. was fun and rocky. Took a 05 board. Good first start
Day 2 we went up to brighton and were greeted warmly by one of the head crew people. He told us some info that turned out really useful. We made another jump.. as good if not better using only pow.. My hip was hurtin so i only got like 5 jumps in.. worth it. like 8 inches of pow. Did some long 180's.
Day 3. Best. Day. Evar. (so far
Anyway what a tease! Its not gunna snow for like another 2 weeks! Stupid highpressure system is keeping a MASSIVE storm outa utah. :(. So ill be jibbing in my room until the snow falls again.
We woulda had pictures on day 3.. (ill post a vid of day 2 l8r) but my friends phone "froze".. idk how that happened but w.e.

got to ride a little on saturday. Went to an indoor place just outside seoul (bucheon). Was an odd experience for me. The slope itself was kinda lame, that was expected of course, but it was just the front edge after front edge that really messed me up. Bloody strange if you ask me. i probably threw down more scorpions in that 4 hour session than in my entire season last year. It reminded me that no matter how much bs i can talk, im still pretty crap when you actually strap me in

Helllllzzz YEAAAHHHHH boooiiiii Ahem....yes, my brother and I shall be hittin' up the ol' Whistler for about 3 days of riding, Sunday night->Wednesday evening. It'll be my first time there, didn't want to go before I would be able to hit up a lot of terrain, basically until I was good enough for black diamonds and what not. Might hit up Baker on the Thursday after we drive back to Bellingham, WA, we'll see how my body is feeling of 3 days riding, with early season legs. |

10-31-2010 was definitely a treat.
The Front Range mountains in Colorado have been hammered pretty good by a series of storms over the last week. I wasn't able to get out into the thick of it, but had my chance to go check out what was happening last Sunday. 2-4" had fallen over night but the temps for the previous 4 days had been very warm. I was figuring dust on crust and the day would be a two mile hike for an ord (one run day). I couldn't have been more wrong. The top of our first run was looking pretty good. ![]() And it was. Steve thought so. ![]() ![]() Forrest concurred. ![]() ![]() Pete enjoying the early season pow. ![]() ![]() And Matt got deep into the shadows. ![]() ![]() Matt was on slowshoes. On the drive up I told the crew that he was on them and that he planned to use them for the season. I also said that by the end of the day he'd be talking about getting a splitboard asap. After hiking through the ultra light very unsupportable snow pack he was wasted by the second lap. Things started out well for him. ![]() ![]() ![]() Then he got towards the bottom of the run... ![]() ![]() and the legs couldn't take it anymore... ![]() Nice and soft so no harm done. I can confidently say it was the best powder day of the season. Until next time. |

colorado seems to suck tons of people in, thinking its the most gnar snow spot out there. move to the PNW!
it usually starts to be hikeable by early november but it varies every year. i rode oct. 11 2 years ago but there was nothing this year. resorts (which there are only like.. three of... one here, one in anchorage, and one in fairbanks as far as i know) usually start to open in late nov. or early december. we have to close here in mid april cause of insurance but the snow stays there through may usually. it really depends how much it snows all year and toward the end of the year. summer is all about the outdoors. fishing, hiking, etc etc etc all that typical stuff. the job market is strong here compared to a lot of places though. youll see "not hiring, dont bother" signs in windows down south but ive seen a handful of places with "now hiring" signs here just recently.

why is anchorage so special? the whole state is epic as long as you dont go too far north. legendary haines is down here in the panhandle with juneau. valdez is closer to anchorage though but its not really the same area. anchorage has lots of backcountry but to be honest the resort kinda blows.

Perhaps that's the point...don't tend to see a lot of AK folks on here. Not saying Anchorage is special, but I think AK would be special to a snowboarder.
