whistler BC

whistler is such a baller place. all the food in the village is delicious but can get pricey, I forget the name of it, but theres a bar down there that has some of the best wings i've ever had. as for runs, if your lucky to get some fresh pow (you probably will), WHistler Bowl, The Couloir and Grand Finale are my favorite, all of them start of Whitler's peak and just go straight down the bowl. It's amazing. As long as you are in bounds, you can wonder of into the trees, they all lead out to the bottom of the moutain. Make sure hit the runs/park up and in the morning and go into the trees mid day, it gets shtook crowded out in the open during mid day.

peek to creek is sick, wandering of of it into the trees is awesome on a pow day. a ton logs and crap you can hit. iits really not work taking it alot because then you have to tkae a ton of lifts to get back to the top. whistler is always crowded, espcially the lower parts of the moutains, but if shouldnt be terrible when you go.

i forgot to mention it but the symphony amphither, on theright side of whistler peak, if you are looking on to the peak lift, is one of the best places at the resort. take flute bowl, or north flute bowl all the way down to symphony expreess, cliff drops, glades, pow all in like a 15-20 minute run. its awesome

yup. that reminds me that, what used to always do was pull up to the peak lift at 3:59, get the last chair, and then bomb down peak to creek all alone with my buddies. it's epic

Blackcomb is more of an adventure getting to the top

what lens colours did you guys use over there? im assuming its mostly going to be overcast?

looking at getting pink iridium from oakley... H.I. yellow would be sick, but dont want to go blind if the sun comes out

I would say wear sunglasses unless snowing when you are there

i got a pair of a frames with pink iridium lens...

from what ive read they are pretty decent in snow/overcast conditions yet not horrible when its bright?

ideally id have like yellow + fire iridium aswell, not sure how thatll work out funds wise..

will i be alright with just pink iridium??

A small group of us are heading to whistler for new years 12/30 - 1/4 and i was curious if anyone knows any promotions or websites i can get discounted lift tickets during that time. i heard 7-11 in squamish is a great option but not during the holidays. I was able to find a website that hooked me up with discounts for everything but lift tickets, check out:

For anyone who's booking accommodations online, usually whoever you book through also has lift ticket deals. If not, then, yeah, the 7-11 in Squamish is definitely cheaper than buying on-mountain.

One of the best places to eat, in my opinion, is Splitz Grill. Delicious burgers for under $10.

If you plan on drinking, bars are way expensive and pour the lamest shots on earth. Carry a flask instead.

Since you'll be there for a month, don't bother riding on weekends when the crowds can be ridiculous. Party and sleep in, then get your real riding in midweek when the place thins out.

It's my first time snowboarding on the perfect powder mountain!!!

Whistler doesn't have the driest snow and it can be a little heavy.  The advantage that Whistler does have is that there is plenty of snow. I was there earlier this year and got 1.8 metres in my first week.   

Allura is the real deal.  I have been using them for the last 5-6 years.

Yeah im from ottawa, my hill is mont tremblant.

i seriously dont know what to expect. im just totaly pumped.


one question i have,
im a pretty intermeditate snowboarder. i dont really enjoy wearing a helmet, how much will it effect my experiance at whister/blackcomb??????

anywaaaaays,
whister's gonna be a blast! a lot of college kids go for college weekend (which is either President's Day weekend or MLK weekend). some go just for the parties but i know that i'm gonna be shredding all day. go to bed at 3 am, wake up at 6, make the trek out to whistler, and riiiide all day baby.

also, the pow is just ridic up there. :)

I would recommend Panorama, fernie, and if you can make a trip to Banff to hit up Sunshine and Lake Louise

was at whistler last year......so sick!

one experience: dreary cloudy day in whistler village, and rode in the gondola up THROUGH THE CLOUDS and it was beautiful up top. Crazy.

^^^ excellent choices, I ride symphony when it get really busy, it's always the last place to get lined up/tracked out.

i'm going up feb 18-23 for my first west coast experience. is it better to have a softer board or a stiffer board?
