whistler is such a baller place. all the food in the village is delicious but can get pricey, I forget the name of it, but theres a bar down there that has some of the best wings i've ever had. as for runs, if your lucky to get some fresh pow (you probably will), WHistler Bowl, The Couloir and Grand Finale are my favorite, all of them start of Whitler's peak and just go straight down the bowl. It's amazing. As long as you are in bounds, you can wonder of into the trees, they all lead out to the bottom of the moutain. Make sure hit the runs/park up and in the morning and go into the trees mid day, it gets shtook crowded out in the open during mid day.

peek to creek is sick, wandering of of it into the trees is awesome on a pow day. a ton logs and crap you can hit. iits really not work taking it alot because then you have to tkae a ton of lifts to get back to the top. whistler is always crowded, espcially the lower parts of the moutains, but if shouldnt be terrible when you go.
i forgot to mention it but the symphony amphither, on theright side of whistler peak, if you are looking on to the peak lift, is one of the best places at the resort. take flute bowl, or north flute bowl all the way down to symphony expreess, cliff drops, glades, pow all in like a 15-20 minute run. its awesome |

Don't forget 7th Heaven at the top of Blackcomb - get there early in the AM to avoid the rush. Remember that peak to peak gondola makes it possible to ride both mountains on the same day. I agree Peak to Creek is epic, but the ride back up is way too long. Put yourself at the Peak at 3:30 and bomb it to Creekside for the last run of the day.

yup. that reminds me that, what used to always do was pull up to the peak lift at 3:59, get the last chair, and then bomb down peak to creek all alone with my buddies. it's epic

Follow the link...
http://media.intrawest.com/whistler/trailmap/index.html?int=banner-nonflash_mapbtn_101807 to get to the interactive trail map. Gondola, make your way to peak chair and then go from there. Blackcomb is more of an adventure getting to the top |

Whistler gets a lot of blue sky days. And a lot of overcast ones and days of flat light. It is like most other low altitude resorts that I have been to. I have been there a lot and have mostly used yellow. On the brightest days I wear sun glasses (prescription).

If you're going to be up here for a month, i'd bring more than one lens. You can go from overcast and no vision, to incredibly sunny days. Even my buddies who come up for weekends bring a pair of lenses because weather on the mountain can change over a day

You're going to need multiple lenses if you are going up to whistler for a lot of riding. Not only is do they get variable light/weather conditions, there is so much variability in what the mountains offer. You might want to stick to the groomers some days and the trees others. Both need different shades if you want high visibility.
BTW save up a ton of money and stay in the village. It get really expensive, but worth every dollar if you like to party |

A small group of us are heading to whistler for new years 12/30 - 1/4 and i was curious if anyone knows any promotions or websites i can get discounted lift tickets during that time. i heard 7-11 in squamish is a great option but not during the holidays. I was able to find a website that hooked me up with discounts for everything but lift tickets, check out:
http://www.alluradirect.com/whistler-subscribe-confty.cfm Also, anybody know where the best party on new years is in whistler? |

Jdit,
If you're from BC or WA, I know you can get an EDGE card that gives discount lift tickets to "locals" I love how living in WA has deemed me a local even though I've never been there... Anyway, heading up the 3rd-6th of Jan, hope the snow's good! |

For anyone who's booking accommodations online, usually whoever you book through also has lift ticket deals. If not, then, yeah, the 7-11 in Squamish is definitely cheaper than buying on-mountain.
One of the best places to eat, in my opinion, is Splitz Grill. Delicious burgers for under $10. If you plan on drinking, bars are way expensive and pour the lamest shots on earth. Carry a flask instead. Since you'll be there for a month, don't bother riding on weekends when the crowds can be ridiculous. Party and sleep in, then get your real riding in midweek when the place thins out. |

Whistler doesn't have the driest snow and it can be a little heavy. The advantage that Whistler does have is that there is plenty of snow. I was there earlier this year and got 1.8 metres in my first week.
Allura is the real deal. I have been using them for the last 5-6 years. |

Snow is like anywhere on the west coast, can be wet and a bit heavy (west coast cement) but they can get tons of it. It's not the amount/type of snow that people love it's the amount and type of terrain.

This is my first time going to a big mountain resort like Whistler. I live in Ontario and the highest vertical i get is 226m. I can easily do their blues and black runs with no problems at all. Should I consider taking an intermediate/advanced lesson at Whistler just to familiarize myself with big mountain snowboarding or will i be fine learning by myself?

whistler was great, cept for 2 years ago. it was sheer ice. if you pick the right time to go you could have the best conditions you've had all season. A whole day of powder skiing/riding turns into a sweet night of shopping, dinning, etc. in the village.
I personally liked Whistler mountain more because there was more exploration and such, but it is all a personaly preference. Whistler also has more experienced and advanced runs that blackcomb does. Have fun up there!

^^ Those are excellent choices. Symphony is great, particularly in the trees. I also like the grey zone on Blackcomb. It's a bit of work, but well worth it for the view alone.

We do the morning thing, where they give you enough food to kill a pig and then let get some of the first tracks.
Oh, that what it is called.
anyway you can ride the lifts ahead of the crowd for most of the morning.
sure its a few bucks but after a good snowfall it is nice to be in the first wave
