im afraid ill have to disagree with you there chief. As someone said somewhere else, 'but do you get a point for writing haha! on another forum?" There is a system here that rewards you directly for contributing, and if you are seen to be abusing that system by posting any old crap to get your points, then other people who do contribute wonder why they're putting in the effort. If we dont flag people then its not only unfair on those people, but it also helps drive away some of the people who not only contribute, but contribute a great deal, and wonder why the forums are filled with utter dross posted by people trying to score free gear.

I do try and stay out of it, particularly in the boardroom, since its very much a 'whatever' type place. But honestly, it is a teensy bit insufferable.

And none of this even gets to the reviews which is what really drives me insane. I genuinely dislike that people are lying through their teeth to people theyre supposed to be helping make financial decisions. We are all supposed to have each others backs at least in this one regard. But points make this an obvious problem.

first off, i can not believe harobikes and ianbejamin didnt know that all these clips other than south park and team america are from Tropic Thunder. that movie is freakin money.

yea i think it happens to all of us i got marked as spam a week ago but 2 months ago i got marker for the same spam so i got the spam thing 2 times for one item lol and i sometimes get spamed for writing on the fourms when its honest too

This is how this thread went down.  The OP asked about appealing a spam flag.  We kindly asked him what got flagged.  It turns out it was a review for a pair of pants he tried on in a store.  That is not an acceptable review.  When a place is giving you points towards free gear for reviews they need to be in depth and informative.  Sierra prefers that you have used this item multiple times or have at minimum used it for one day on the hill.  There are multiple guides on sierra that show what a good/acceptable review is. 

snowbowlmt made multiple threads yesterday that went downhill fast.  I PMed with him and asked him to relax and he just kept right on being a dick to most everyone.  So you know what happened?  Everyone was a dick right back to him.  I don't think having an expert member/moderator title means you have to let people be a dick to you and you can't post funny/crude videos and pictures in response.  We have been posting funny/crude videos and pictures of each other for as long as this forum has been around.  It is the internet folks try not to take it so seriously. 

Just to remind everyone there are just a few basic rules for the sierra forums.

1.  No personal attacks
2.  Treat other people with respect
3.  Use the search function before making a new thread especially if it is about stomp pads, favorite rider/resort/gear,
4.  Don't piss of BRUIZZA (okay this one isn't really a rule)

Also recognise this MASSIVE thing about points. If you have 1 or 2 spam flags against you, its no big thing. Hell, ive accidentally flagged someone because i meant to press the reply button but hit the spam button instead. I apologised to them and spam flagged my own post as a penance. If you have 3-5, sure i can get with that. Its no big deal. You screwed up a couple of times, it probably wasn't deliberate. If you're under 5 you can assume freely that we maybe got the call wrong at least on 1 or 2 of those occasions if not all 5.

But if you have more than 20 flags on your account, you've consistently shown that you are a dick. By the time you hit 20 you should be seriously contemplating the way you contribute to the forums. If you're still moving towards 30 at this point then theres honestly no helping you. The day you hit 30, (and its a number that is honest to god not easy to hit), is the day you've shown beyond a shadow of a doubt that you can't contribute positively to the community. I mean come on, its not like its 5 flags and you're banned. You have to make 30 posts of absolute dross. It takes the personal judgement part out of the judgement call.

This whole subjective judgements thing is pretty ludicrous when you have to make 30 posts of utter crap to lose your privileges. After 20, its a fair bet that you ARE being a douche, and you are leeching off the system.

I just got my new boots today and wore them around the house and outside to get the mail, will my review get spammed when I put it up?  They really did feel super comfy and look soooo steezy, or something...

that was just my lame attempt at a joke hana...I was just amazed that this thread made it to a second page so I wanted to help it along to a third!

oh gotcha...cuz I was like I really hope this person isn't being serious.  Kinda hard to tell these days whose joking and who isn't since text is never good at conveying tone.

That's actually an issue with the community home page. If you look at his profile or the product reviews, it's only there once. 

if only i could give you your points back, ridiculing cry babies and assholes is the lifeblood we all thrive on.

I also forgot to mention in my typically long winded rant:

The amount of stuff we see that is pure crap but we don't flag massively massively outweighs the stuff we do. I know it seems like all we do is run around flagging stuff, but i think ive honestly flagged about 10-15 posts maximum on the forums. Its just because i actually tell the person i flagged them (i beleive in accountability) that they assume im running around like a busy bee flagging everything. So even if the entire population had one account, you'd still have another 15-20 posts of crap to go before you lose your points for future posts.

Im definitely in the high teens for reviews though.

My advice is

1. Avoid spamming any other section that this one. This one has a much more liberal policy on what constitutes spam. Do try and stay on topic. If you do howvere make a post in the wrong section and its pretty clear you made a mistake, most likely someone who can, will just move the post for you. But if you are posting several off topic threads in the wrong section, well thats a pretty clear indication youre being a douche.

2. The funny picture thread is pretty heavily policed. Not because its some super special thread, but because community members got fed up early on in the thread with people saying "thats funny!" and asked for people to stop it.

3. The reviews section: Need i say more? If you post a fake review in here you are a selfish jerk and you deserve it.

Understand though, you can however do what you like at the end of the day, but if I personally see it, i'm obviously going to flag you for it. And not because i love to abuse power, but because I want everyone legitimately contributing to feel that their contribution is appreciated by the community at large.

PS. I think i also speak for almost every expert member out there when i say we cant way for the day to arrive when we dont have the power to flag your posts. It means the points system is dead and we dont have to read your post through this warped lense of 'the legitimate community'. Even when i lose my awesome red tag and fantastic 20% discount it will be nice to just look at a post that says 'lol' and see only 'lol'. :)

people are encouraged if they want to comment to at least also post a picture.


I personally enjoy that thread... or at least used to, until people started commenting/arguing a lot. I dont have time to surf the net looking for funny sh!t.

DAMN! these are some good reviews... lol! wood unions were his favorite comparing to SLs. really? seriously? are you kidding me? most of these don't even make sense!

yeah, if even people who actually can flag reviews look at it and think "christ i cant be bothered to wade through ALL THAT!!!" its pretty unlikely that someone, no matter how community focused they are, is going to go through a million reviews to put a little flag next to the no and hope 4 other people out there are willing to do the same thing. No one really bothers and its fairly understandable in truth :)
