There is a "Regional Riders" area of thread topics, considering this isn't really Gear Talk.

Why are they always so overpriced at the beginning of the season? $49. for 5 trails, I am anxious to get out their but that adds up with a family in tow for limited terrain open and a long drive.

When they say 5 runs it is usually just sections of different runs. Expect to do some hiking and for the weekend to be very busy.

I'm very jealous. Being in Oh, I probably wont get to ride until the end of this month at the earliest. On a bright note, we might get some snow on friday. Too bad it will be 50 all next week :(

It was pretty crowded, but the conditions were pretty fun. Pretty much the same stuff they always have open for opening day, Rime/Reason, etc.
Almost 100% man-made snow, but they did a nice job with it. The snowmaking crew at Killington/Pico has really stepped it up last year and this year. It got really nice in the afternoon when it warmed up and the crowds moved out. The "Stairway to Heaven" wasn't too fun to climb up after a day of riding.

It's been mentioned in other threads, but if you have a friend with a season pass they can get you cheap tickets too.

Does any1 know a cheap inn or hotel nearby killington? I'd be travelling from NYC and would prefer to go for more than 1 day if I'm gonna make the hike up there.

Look for a place in Rutland, VT. It will be a lot cheaper there than on the mountain. It's only like a 10 minute drive to Killington, too. There is a Ramada, Red Roof and Holiday Inn, among many others.

A few years ago I went up to Killington when they were getting dumped on. We stayed at the Best Western in Rutland I believe. It was fairly nice, and I don't think it was outrageously expensive. But then again, my parents paid for it. haha. I'll never forget the ride up there though. What's usually a 3 hour drive from CT was a 6 hour drive and the highways were just snow ruts. As I was a passenger, I was loving the fact it was snowing so much, but to this day, my parents still say it was the worst driving they had ever done in snow. But hey, I had fun and got to ride some great powder! Maybe I should thank them...

The Best Western is pretty nice, and a little closer to the mountain, too.

And you have to hike up the trail? That sounds awful. How bad/long is the hike?

you don't have to hike to the trail... you have to hike back to the gondola to get back down to the base. It's about 250 stairs..up. |

So you would only go up the stairs once? And that's only after you're all done boarding and ready to head out?
