Twin Bridges, CA - A powerful winter storm that has been battering California ski resorts with nearly incomprehensible amounts of snow, but also rain and high winds, resulted in an accident on Sunday morning that knocked five riders from a chairlift at Sierra-at-Tahoe ski resort in Twin Bridges. As winds increased, Sierra-at-Tahoe resort officials decided to close the resort at 11 a.m. for the rest of the day on Sunday. Resort officials plan to reopen at 9 a.m. on Monday, with the Puma lift in operation until lift mechanics clear the West Bowl chairlift. |

i heard about it. I was gonna go riding this weekend instead of studying for my final that I have on wednesday. decided not to go last minute, and glad that I did-they closed Sierra the rest of the day on Sunday "due to heavy winds." aka due to heavy winds that blew a tree over onto the west bowl chair. pretty crazy.

Unrelated, but reminds me of last year someone got hurt on the lifts and we were stuck up there for maybe 10 minutes (not that big of a deal). Well anyways, two guys decided to jump off the lift. I'm surprised they didn't break anything, but they were kicked off the mountain.

There lucky that they were at a point not that high off the ground they always close the lifts by me if there's even a report of high winds.

I was at Northstar yesterday and they closed a lot of their lifts around 11:30 / 12noon.

Yeah I was at Northstar on that day. The winds were definitely howling up there and N* is wind protected. Backside did not open at all that day and I blew out of there around 1 with the heavy snow and winds.
Monday was epic though.
Glad no one got seriously injured.

Holy Moses, I was there that day, didn't get to ride though.
The drive up that day was insane, when we got outta the car, it was like sandpaper to the face just in the parking lot. After we got ready, when we reached to the front of the resort, one of the mtn host informed us of the situation. So we got up there for nothing. If I remembered correctly. The story was that the wind knocked a tree down, the tree fell on the lift line. In the process, the tension from the tree falling on the line slang shot a few outta their chair. Sad day at Sierra. |

Sorry for digging up an old thread.
This was 2 seasons ago. There haven't been any good snow recently. So Sierra this weekend will be icy in the beginning then slushy towards mid to end of the day. Is going to be warm. |
