Conditions are getting dire in the Tahoe basin, as I can attest from the snow pits I dug last weekend in my avy class. I've stared at the NOAA page for a long time but am no forecaster, so this poll is what I will turn to in order to plan the rest of my winter. Have at it

You guys have gotten SLAMMED the past 2-3 seasons. Multiple 5-10ft dumps every year. Crazy shtooking pow days all the time. It is time for the rest of the country to get some love. Colorado is getting HAMMERED this year after having one of our worst seasons ever last year.

The next could be your last...quick bitching
USGS unveils California megastorm scenario
by Staff Writers Sacramento (UPI) Jan 14, 2011 Scientists have developed a weather scenario in which California could be inundated by storms capable of producing up to 10 feet of rain. The U.S. Geological Survey report on the so-called ARkStorm (atmospheric river) was released Friday at a conference in Sacramento and warned that if it developed, California would see widespread flooding that would cause roughly $300 billion in damage. |

Zk I got lost in the acronyms but from what I understand if it keeps getting cold at night with bluebird days then at least maybe we'll get some good corn snow (if you're willing to hike for it) in the mornings on the southern aspects until we get another storm. I will discontinue my complaining as requested and look on the bright side -- at least I can get some work done this way -b

the part that is worrying me is how long this high pressure system has stayed and that I've had multiple 55+ degree days on the mountain. obviously snow is going to come, and yes, NorCal uses yardsticks to measure its snow when the rest of you hardly have enough to scrape together on a piece of glass to snort, but this heatwave needs to go. |

I would guess that it'll be the first week of Feb when it snows again. I totally agree that this heat must GO AWAY! Zakk thanks for the link to tahoeweatherdiscussion.com. I've always used snowforecast.com but now I think I'll use the Tahoe specific one because that was such an in-depth discussion. Keep praying for snow!

From what I've heard, it's a few weeks out. But when it comes, it's gonna be like Nov-Dec all over again with lots of big storms back to back. It just needs to build up enough to break through this high pressure we're currently having. In the meantime, I'm mountian biking. Gotta love Cali.

Ummm as a scientist...it doesn't work that way buddy. We would get in heaps load of trouble if we skew data like that. Do you honestly believe we as scientists would be in cahoots like that and there would be such a conspiracy? If there is a new discovery that goes against conventional wisdom that's big news in the research community and they would publish since it'll be ground breaking. I hate how ppl assume we're like kooks or something...seriously we go through a lot of rigorous training to do what we do. Science can never be absolute, we make observation from the data, but we've been trained on how to observe this data. Just like doctors are trained to diagnose people. You can diagnose people, but you haven't had the training...same with science. I love how people assume they can look at raw data like that with minimal training and say look I can do what scientists do! You wouldn't do that with doctors, lawyers, mechanics, etc. /rant |

i agree with you that he is good but he also said the storm door was going to swing wide open in January and we would get hammered back in December. Then as January approached he said it would be mid January...and now well... My point is that this stuff is really hard to predict even for guys who know their stuff. |

Ginger you are a completely uninformed moron. This has been one of the snowiest years on record for CO Depending on the area, CO is anywhere from 120% to 150% of their 10 year average snowfall for this time of year. If you want the entire article below let me know and I will email it to you! Colorado snowpack accumulations off to strong start
By
Dennis Webb
Colorado’s Jan. 1 snowpack is at 136 percent of average, its highest level for that date in more than a decade, a U.S. Department of Agriculture agency said today. The snowpack also is at 159 percent of last year’s Jan. 1 reading, the Natural Resource Conservation Service’s Snow Survey Office in Denver said in a news release. The last time the state’s snowpack was this high at the start of the year was in 1997, when it was 160 percent of average. |

oh thanks for the insult. Just going on what my local news said the other day. Wasn't me, they said that denver has had only 50% for that time of year. Blame it on the news. And I think your a uninformed moron as well for saying that :)

Last I checked there weren't any ski resorts in Denver. Also the person you called out (Bruizza) lives in Denver so I think he is much more aware of the average snowfall rates than you are. Next time pay a little more attention to what you are so emphatically saying is the truth. You can't pick a city and apply it to the entire state.
So I would say that you are the one who failed, not Bruizza |

1. Your local news is located where? 2. If you hear it on the news it must be true. 3. Oh Denver, ya that's a real good model for CO's snowpack, especially since the City of Denver is a mecca for skiing/riding 4. I'm going to blame you, well... just because i agree with WingNut Oh and finally, here is the Colorado snowpack reports as of today... It compares this this year to the average, this year to lasts years, and last year to average. Chew on that and get back to us. http://www.wcc.nrcs.usda.gov/reports/UpdateReport.html?report=Colorado&format=SNOTEL+Snowpack+Comparison+Update+Report |
