that's pretty impressive, i thought they were just a bunch of lunatics. i don't think that whaling is good, especially because of the numbers in the population right now but one day i would like to try eating whale. it is part of their culture and it suck have to sacrifice that. everything is about moderation and compromise though.

At least they stopped for this season.
Tough if this same fight is going to have to continue every Japanese Whaling season. Good to see some success!

I watched it a few times. I'm definitely glad it stopped. I agree with eldolocal68. We need to get them to stop slaughtering dolphins. Sounds like "Whale Wars" worked. Good job guys on a job well done. Hard work pays off.

Those SeaSheperd guys are lucky that they were allowed to get away with burning and sinking the whaling ships without retribution.

Greenpeace did not, look up the facts on this story. however greenpeace did rake in more money in "donations" then the japanese whaling industry made in profits.

Eh, if it is not one thing, then it is another. The whaling they were doing in this day and age seemed fairly insignificant and was more symbolic. The Japanese are big on their delicacies so I just wonder which one the efforts have been shifted to.

So the Sea Sheperd were able to terrorize and burn ships freely and Greenpeace raked in a ton of money for doing nothing, and the Japanese are being called the bad guys?

The last I heard they were reassessing this years activities as they only have caught 50-100 whales out of their season quota of more than 1000!
I don't think they are finished as they almost have the numbers in the whaling commission meetings to get the ban overturned anyway. They will probably try and get legal sanction for their activities and then they can go harder at the Sea Shepherd people. |

Sea Shepherd seems really dangerous...they're going to kill someone some day.
"Operations have included scuttling and disabling whaling vessels at harbor, intervening in Canadian seal hunts, ramming other vessels, trying to temporarily blind or disorient whalers with a laser device,[3][4] throwing bottles of foul-smelling butyric acid onto vessels at sea,[4] boarding of whaling vessels while at sea, and seizure and destruction of drift nets at sea. Sea Shepherd claims that their aggressive actions are necessary as the international community has shown itself unwilling or unable to stop species-endangering whaling and fishing practices.[5] Some governments and organizations have referred to them as terrorists.[6]" |

I'm doing a project for school on whales and apparently the oil from sperm whales is used in some NASA space shuttles because no other synthetic oil can stay thawed in the cold temperatures. I just thought that was an interesting fact. I'm glad to see that they stopped though.

If you haven't seen "The Cove" watch it. The dolphin murders are so pointless because they don't do anything with the dolphins they kill and the dolphin meat is too high with mercury to eat anyway...
thumbs down Japan for Dolphin care

I've never seen a body of water look so red before. It was almost like you weren't looking at water. I can understand ones culture, but just because its your culture doesn't mean its morally right.

I wonder if this is a tax write-off like the time I sponsored the killing of abortion clinic doctors (sarcasm)...come on, I don't care what the cause is, it doesn't give you the right to take another life unless it's protecting a human's right. Pro-Life my arse! |

I dont support whaling at all. But what give any of us the right to tell a culture what they should eat and shouldnt? What if the Japaneses try to stop us from eating Cows and chickens? Just a thought.

^ I was thinking similar. The cow is sacred in India what if they tried to stop us from eating that tasty angus beef.
Those guys trying to stop them from whaling could of got messed up. I am surprised they did not try to use other harmful tactics to stop the whale protesters. I wouldn't doubt using one of the harpoons were on their mind instead of just a water cannon. It was very funny watching a small boat with a few people take down a bigger vessel. Need more info on how they sunk that boat. edit:endangered species |

They had a poor half to start the season so they headed home. Those lunatics in the boats who have nothing better to do with their lives than waste space and use up oxygen didn't make them go back.

I'm pretty sure they rammed their boat into the other boat. But that's true! Cows are sacred and the killings of cattle is pretty gruesome and systematic, which is why I know some people who turned vegan after watching the killing process. Tuna is also down to low numbers too so does that mean we're going to stop eating sushi? No, because Americans still wants sushi, Americans gets sushi, period. |

They have not "stopped". Just canceled their annual whaling trips which only account for about 50% of Japanese whaling.

cows and chickens, although raised in horrible conditions for the most part, are RAISED, that's the difference between "domesticated" farm animals and whales. this is what you call a "false equivalency"(like comparing this to the efforts of the anti-abortion movement). the japanese are grossly over-fishing across the globe, not just whales and dolphins, but tuna, sharks, cod and even krill! the japanese whaling fleet shouldn't face stink bombs from annoying environmentalist, but direct naval assault from nations that have signed the anti-whaling treaty. KABOOM! their actions are a disgusting affront to mankind. "who are we to tell the japanese what to eat and what not to eat"???? we're humans, and if we(you) have any humanity, we should do everything in our power to end this wholesale rape of our seas!

Greenpeace are a menace when they try to stop the boats. They should just do useful protesting and lobbying instead of basically acting as pirates breaking laws and trying to justify it.
