The Site Search for the forums really sucks. I just wanted to give everyone a tip on getting better search results on the forums here.
If you use google to search, just type in your search tear and then follow it with "site:www.trusnow.com" and it will perform a much better search of the site for what you are looking for. For example: "2011 2012 catalog site:www.trusnow.com" always brings up that thread with the catalog lists I'm looking for, but I can never find it using the sites built in search function. |

^ Great tip, thanks MrMeaty.
I tested it using "High Cascade site:www.trusnow.com" and it worked like a charm. Very useful. |

The search should somehow be integreated into the forum function instead of having to click on "site" at the top to search...people are really confused about that, I know I was.

i agree. I had the hardest time finding that at first...but even when I DID find it, it doesn't work very well!
I'm pretty sure there is a script that allows you to embed the google search right into your site. |

great tip!
i know i hated the search function on this site... having to constantly switch back and forth between "shopping" and "site". then i wouldnt find my answer and get yelled at by the regular members on this forum about how i dont search and this and that.... it is just easier to use your tip... too bad this site doesnt have better search. it is powered by google afterall. oh well

As Rye stated, you don't need the www. portion, but you do still need the .com at the end. so "search term site:trusnow.com" would work.

I actually just start all my searches with TruSnow then "subject"
Seems like the first result is almost always what I am searching for.

Incorporates what? All I have seen is folks complaing the search functions need a lot of improvement. So what is the improvement you are hoping they incorporate?
Or are you just hoping they incorporate the feedback??

You would think they could fix the search tool so we wouldn't have to go to another site just to find a topic.
I think this is the only forum I have been a part of with a search function that is so defunct. |

Coding search isn't exactly easy, I've used that site:blah.com for multiple sites in the past, there's a reason google is #1 in the world at searching.

It's funny...when you click "site" it actually says "google custom search" but it doesn't work very well!
And yes, the search here is pretty bad, but I've been on plenty of sites that had bad searching. But there are other issues with these forums...like when you hit "quote" it only quotes the last post, not the one you wanted to quote. And when I look at "My forum" posts in my profile, it does not show all the threads I have recently posted on. Looks like it just shows the ones I started. |

I've been using this method all the time now and testing it withe the site search.
The site search is really hit or miss. What's funny is that I did a product search for the Sierra/Rome 390 bindings and it came up blank, but if you view one of the sierra snowboards, there is a link to the Sierra bindings there and then they show up as in stock. What's up with that? |

I haven't been using it, but good thing you reminded me that the option is out there. I use it tons for searching almost anything else. For instance, trying to find anything for my university means I have to pull up Google and find it through there. The school's website is the most useless thing ever. It's very strange how TruSnow does have the little Google applet in it, but then it still doesn't work as well as if you're searching through Google proper. I did notice yesterday that the results the applet pulls up all still have sierrasnowboard.com in them. You think they haven't updated it and that's part of the reason the searches are not finding things??

I've had a little better luck with the built in search lately, so I don't know if they are working on it or not. The Google searching still works better but I find I don't have to rely on it as heavily...

Good call. Been doing this the past couple years. This forum used to have a GREAT search function but they went proprietary code sometime ago and ever since then the search has been garbage. Doubt it'll get fixed without a complete site overhaul given the new ownership.

The part I don't understand is when you click the "Site" tab it shows that it is a google custom search! if they would make that search box simply google with "site:trusnow.com" at the end of it, it would work better then it does now.

Well...seems like this is still the way to go. I can find the really popular threads using the site search but finding not so popular ones (like this thread
) did not show up at all, but was the top pick using google's site: tool.

I'm a big time supporter of this too! If there is one thing that is truly terrible on the site, it is the forum search capabilities, or rather, lack thereof. It also causes a lot of frustration and turmoil in the community because folks post tons of redundant threads, then a bunch of long-time whiners get annoyed and tell them to search old posts, which is nearly useless.

on this page at the top bar under "community" and a little to the right, you should see a "control panel" button. You can only see it when in the forums. click it, then scroll down to "edit profile" In there, there is a "yes" or "no" button for "WYSIWYG post editor" If you click "Yes", then your quotes will work for the post you want to quote instead of the last post in the thread. If you are asking what WYSISYG stands for, it's What You See Is What You Get. Why this has to be enabled for quotes to quote properly...your guess is as good as mine.
