..... I mean, there's so many different types..... Horse hair? What? Do? You ? Use? That? For?
I mean.. isn't waxing as easy as base clean, wax, wait, scrape, use scotchbrite? (Hell most times I just skip the scotchbrite part! Is that bad?) Why all these different type of brushes? Talk to me ppls! |

Go down to about 3/4 of the way on the page and check out "Brushing & Rotobrushing" Brody told us about this site years ago. Lots of good info. |

A basic guide to brushes:
- brass (or steel) bristles used to prep the base before waxing (scrapes out any old wax from the pores in the base). - nylon bristle brush is used to brush out extra wax after you have waxed the board and after you have first scraped off as much cooled wax as you can with a perspex / plexi scraper. Don't forget to use the notch on the scraper to take the wax off the edges as well. - horsehair bristle brush is used after a nylon brush and does much the same thing as a nylon brush, but more as a final prep. - as you say, a quick rub with scothbrite pad is the last step. |

I have that Tognar site saved in my "favorites" so I refer to it when I have any questions regarding waxing. Swix also has good info on waxing as well as the different types of brushes. I have three different types of brushes, all of them made by Swix. I don't use the stiff bristled brush too much unless I need to get off a bunch of junk from the base before I wax. I have a steel bristled (cleaning base before applying wax), bronze bristled with nylon bristles around the border (brushing after scraping wax off), and a soft nylon bristled brush (final prep of wax / last step). I know that I go over board when I wax my boards but it gives me something to do so I don't mind puting in a little extra labor. I've never used the scotch brite pad, although that's what all my buddies use. To each their own. You could probably get by with the steel bristled brush and the soft nylon bristled brush and you'd be just fine.
