south shore tahoe is NOT in utah, but it is within walking distance to the heavenly mtn gondola....doesn't get any easier. Get a room at the horizon and walk 2 blocks to the gondola
all the other resorts are a bout an hour shuttle ride away from south shore |

I am still thoroughly confused. When you say south shore Utah, do you mean the south shore of the Great Salt Lake? So you'd be around SLC?

There's a South Shore Utah?? or do you mean tahoe??? Where are you staying in Utah? Do you have a car? If you have a car you can easily access a bunch of resorts. In Utah, I would hit up Snowbird, Brighton, Powder, Snowbasin, and the Canyons. And California's a big place... are you talking so-cal, mammoth, Tahoe (or someplace else)?

Salt Lake City. Well you have Snowbird, Alta, Brighton, Park City, The Canyons, Deer Valley. I'm not from the area, so I don't know much about them, just planned a trip for PC/Canyons this January.

To me that sounds like Tahoe (California) not Utah. Not really sure where Utah came into this discussion.

I wish you the best of luck with your trip and plans. You could probably start with finding out what state your headed with your buddy. Or maybe where your grammy lives. What if she lives in Los Angeles? |

socal is los angeles. its what we call SOCAL.
she is in pasadena. yeah me too i should figure that out but it seems we are staying in cali and UTAH is definitely out of the question cause why would we travel 2 states away and with a lot of people? 0_0 thanks again fella's i think we are staying in cali so heavenly and kirkwood and sugarbowl are still the resorts i want to hit up if in cali. |

So based on, so far, what you said...
Cali is every where else in California except SOCAL. Which is LA. And you're going to figure out where to go snowboarding later in SOCAL. then in Cali, you're going to hit up Heavenly, Kirwood, and Sugarbowl? So, what's you're question if you know where you're going? |

but now since i think we are in cali i need to figure out where "south shore is" but doesn't look like the resorts i want to go to are around the "south shore" more north.... |

From south to north: Kirwood Heavenly Sugarbowl I'm sure you can figure out the locations of those resorts based on a map and some internet usage. GL. |

i like to figure things out by myself.
but this isn't jst a solo thing sadly but i would like to give my friend idea's on where to go thats all so we can go to that specific resort. 3 days goes by fast and my trip is coming up in about 5 weeks from now and time is very short and i dont have as much info as i can get. i dont even think we rented cars yet! |

sugarbowl?...good resort, but it's a 1.5 hr drive north from south shore (if the roads are dry). If you go to kirkwood, you may not need to go anywhere else...except heavenly, which will be within walking distance and is a huge, fun, cruzy mtn. If you feel the need to hit up a third mtn, Sierra at Tahoe is pretty damn good for it's size and is only a 30 min drive west. |

i actually dont remember @ all. thanks for being a critic.
if someone told you meet me @ starbucks downtown. thats all the info is given to you what would you do? obviously ask for more info. but if he gives you south shore well thats all he gives you assume the rest. most likely tahoe like i said so i should've never fixed my title. i just misplaced the state where we are going. if i can walk from one resort to another that is an awesome idea. but wouldn't be a good idea to ditch my friends. i wont have a place to go back if i do that. |

well at least if youre in pasadena your options for boarding are simple, unlike much of these thread. you can pick between bear mtn and mt high. sure snow valley has lifts too but why when bear is just 30min up the road and so much better.

I don't know if English is your first language because I honestly cannot comprehend some of things you are trying to say.
"i thought the travel would longer??" If it isn't, my bad. If it is, and you talk/type like that, christ man, get an education. With that said, if you're going to South Lake in CALIFORNIA/NEVADA there are really only 3 resorts in the general vicinity, and only two within close driving distance from Stateline. Heavenly has a gondola right into the middle of downtown, which is awesome. Sierra at Tahoe is about 20ish minutes away, by car (weather conditions pending), from downtown. I'm sure there is a shuttle, but you cannot walk from Heavenly to Sierra. Kirkwood is also in the general area, but it's a farther drive (not exactly sure how long since I never go there). There are more resorts on the North Shore (Sugar Bowl, Boreal, Alpine, Squaw, Northstar, Mt Rose, Homewood, etc) but it's going to take you a solid 45 min - 1 hour to drive to the closest one, if not longer. You can make a day trip out of it if you truly want to, but if I were you, I'd just stay and ride Heavenly.

Jam, 3 days at one resort isn't a bad thing. A lot of times you can get a weekend or 3 day package (for lift tickets or lodging). 3 days is actually just enough time to explore, find some good zones and have fun on them. If you try to get to 2 or 3 dif resorts you can just end up searching the entire time. In fact, I would rather be at one resort for an entire trip, unless the snow isn't good and other resorts have more or better snow. |

yea, you won't understand the enormity of heavenly until you get there...it literally sprawls across 2 states
. You'll definitely be able to ride 3 full days there and still not have covered even 15% of the mtn. There's also some secret/hidden trails there that could occupy a half day in themselves. The place is quite an adventure.

I wasn't specifically talking about Mammoth...well actually, I was. But, I'm supporting the idea of staying at one resort for 3 days as Piranha and MikeD said. Heavenly is large, but I suppose depending on coverage, you might get stuck on groomers all day.
And on the same topic as Alka, so you do have an education, right? |
