Alright guys i'm a beginner/getting comfortable. I'm starting to try
some jumps and boxes. Boxes i'm doing fine, starting slow though! haha
So with jumps, how do you stay in control in the air? I ask because when
I went on friday I got some major air and i dont really know what
happened, but I was on the ground and in major pain. Trying to move
forward from this. Any help would be great!
Part 2: How do you pull of 180's and 360's. I've been watching video after video and then i got try it and I can't do it haha :/ How does your body look and what does it do when you are preparing for the jump/actually going off the jump. Eventually I want to be able to put these two together. Any help and advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks! |

snowboard addiction used to have a couple of excellent free video tutorials on this...find them
anyway, some tips are to suck up your legs near the apex of the air (you can pretend like your gonna do a grab) and don't straighten them out until just before landing. The lower center of gravity will stabilize you to a certain extent. you should know where you're gonna put the board down before landing ("spot" the landing)...this becomes instinctual the more you do it, so hone your skills on side hits and bumps doesn't sound like you're near ready for spins, but when you decide you are, go easy on the edge when going off the jump. Turning too hard/digging the edge in to the jump lip will slow you down and get your spin off to a bad start...especially frontside |

I am a firm believer in carpet boarding. this is my second season out and i was nailing 3s all day this past weekend and starting to play with switch and backside 180s. I was carpet boarding all off season working on spins and presses and i 100% believe it paid off. so give that a whorl after watching some of those SA vids
second i think a huge part that helped me is an awareness of how your hips are turned. they can controll a lot on leaving the jump and in the air Best of luck |

i seem to have the same problem. i can do straight airs no problem but the moment i try to spin in the air i just feel completely disoriented and end up in the snow. this even happens with frontside 180s

I was going to try just like 180 spins on a small course. (Like somewhere by my house, if it ever snows!) Then I will take it to the resort/real mountain haha
But for now im going to just practice staying in control while im in mid-air. Also I can't find the video you guys were referring to? Help me out? Thanks!! |

use your shoulders to initiate the rotations instead of forcing the board with your feet. its still possible to do it rotating your feet first, but it wont look as clean and if you ever get certified itll count against you.. honestly i think you might want to try working on switch first so you can control your landing.
if you dont have hip pads and an impact shirt you might want to consider investing in them. a helmet too. it'll help with the "learning" process. |

yeah learning switch is a MUST for me. I feel so uncomfortable, like I don't even know how to ride anymore. Might have to switch my bindings up one of these times and just try it out.

Agree, watch snowboard addiction and visually think it and actively do it before hitting the actual slope.
