I don't think Hamels is struggling that much. His era and whip are high but his record this year doesn't accurately reflect his performance. He's delivered 7 quality starts. The problem is that Philly has absolutely no offence when he takes the mound. Giving your pitcher a one-run buffer is not exactly good run support. I've got him on my fantasy team so I'm hoping he can turn it around and make it somewhat respectable.

yeah those comments were likely made by Giants fans. :) I just got finished saying he has the best era in baseball history with over 1000 innings...that is pretty incredible and the dude is only 25. If you are going to overpay for anyone he is the guy and barring injury he will earn his contract. I am guessing 10 years 250 million or 8 years and 224 million. Obviously you do not want to go to 10 years but I am guessing it is going to be around that if it is anywhere around 5 years then he will get 30 million per as a best guess. I figured every year less than 10 year contract will add 1 million more per year annually.

The Rangers are playing with scrub starting pitchers and still managing to be on top of the MLB. Ross Wolf pitched a win yesterday, allowing only 1 run against the A's. Wait, who's Ross Wolf? He started in place of Nick Tepesch, who had a blister. How many of us have heard of Tepesch? Next up is Justin Grimm. Yeah, I don't know who he is either. At least we know the rest of the rotation: Derek Holland and Yu Darvish.
Just wait until the real SPs return from injuries: Neftali Feliz, Matt Harrison (SP/RP), Colby Lewis, and Alexi Ogando (SP/RP).

Now you know how it feels to [be a Mariners fan, and more specifically] watch Felix Hernandez pitch lol. Angels lit up Maurer yesterday, scoring 5 runs in the first, and 1 in both the 2nd and 3rd innings. He was pulled and the Halos were held relatively silent after that. The M's had been hanging around in the middle of their division, but have been swept in their last 2 series (0-4 @ CLE, 0-2 @ LAA), are now only a half game up on the Angels, and will be hosting the Rangers for 3 starting tomorrow. I'm sure it's nice to be back home after such an awful road stand, but confidence can't be very high right now. I was hoping they might start off the series with Felix pitching, but as stated above, their utter lack of run support won't do much for Felix taking the mound. |

If it meant to lock up Kershaw.... then ya, I'd gladly overpay too! I'm sure any team would do the same regardless than to see him sign elsewhere. And damn, Miggy is playing out of his mind right now!! He's got 13 hr, 52 rbi's and batting .387 in 44 games. All this while starting slow out of the gate.

Cliff Lee with a 3 hit shutout (okay it was against the Marlins), and he looked nasty. With Hamels struggling so much and Halladay out until who-knows-when, good to see one of the "aces" doing his part: 5-2, 2.47 ERA / 1.02 WHIP.

Rockies have won 5 of the last 6... Tulo is batting .338 with 38 RBIs... Cargo has 11 HRs...JDLR has 6 Ws... I know better than to get my hopes up but watching the Rockies lately has been fun.

Kershaw has been the only bright spot for the Dodgers this year...well Gonzalez and Crawford are doing their share. But he has been unbelievable. He holds the lowest era for any pitcher with more than 1000 innings in MLB history! And he is only 25.
His era over his last 58 starts is 1.97. He would have one the Cy Young award last year if it wasn't for the dodgers not scoring any runs for him. Still aren't scoring runs for him this year but with an era of only 1.37 he has managed to pull out 5 wins. If Greinke is worth 150 million...what is Kershaw worth?

Our starting pitching hasn't been the same. Down one arm isn't good. Arms would be more tired at the end of the season. Where its most important.

^boo hoo, one starter suffered an injury. There's still Cain, Baum, Timmy, and Zito. I think the giants are pretty safe if u ask me. I'll show some sympathy when 3 of 4 goes down and you're forced to put guys like Ramon Ortiz to save the season.

Exactly what we needed with this shutout win at home. But with Vogey injured, possibly out 6 weeks after pitching the best 5 innings he's pitched all season.... Not sure if I can say today was a good day.... |

Annnnd the Mariners' woes against Cleveland continue. They were 1 game off .500 when the series with the Indians started, and got swept (outscored 27 - 15 in the series). They had a chance at salvaging one win in the series today, when in the top of the 10th, Smoak hit a 4-baser that barely stayed fair to give the M's an 8-7 lead. But the bottom of the inning featured a bloop single, a dropped throw to first, and jacked shot well over the tall left center well resulted in a 8-10 loss.
Perhaps the visit to the struggling A's will bring some fight back into em. |

Jays just hangin on to the lead today against tampa. They gotta take 3 of 4 here just to claw their way back in the div.
And you know it's summer when the weather gets warmer, bbq's, less clothing and Jays pitchers dropping like flies.

They had a run of drafting good players: Kershaw, Kemp, Billingsley and others but they started trading away all their good farm players: They traded Carlos Santana for Casey Blake...seriously! Last year they traded away their best prospects in the Gonzalez, Crawford trade. They spend money poorly: 3 years 22 million to Brandon League...ouch! 5 years 85 million for Ethier when they have Puig in the works who will be one of best hitters in the league and Van Slyke who could have filled Ethier's shoes. And Kemp has turned into a single's hitter...shoulder must be messed up. Bullpen is bad...League is bad and Bellasario has been awful. Colleti and Mattingly will be gone next year...Ethier will get traded by summer...they will try and dump League but they are stuck with that mess. However, Hanley will be back and they will play him at 3rd, Dee Gorden will play short and he shows promise. Ellis is back at second and Greinke is back...they can still go on a run, especially if Kemp is even 3/4 of the player he normally is...still hope but dwindling fast.

^ That's true, they mentioned something about Jhonny Peralta's increased range which is needed because defensively the Tigers are below average at 3B and 1B.
I do not watch many Detroit games, do opposing teams bunt down the 3B line knowing Cabrera isn't smooth or quick defensively? |

I thought they were actually pretty clear that Migs doesn't know how to play (like maybe he should have been covering third on that bunt, huh?) but that he is a damned fine hitter anyway

^On one hand, being an announcer, you have a lot of air to fill over a course of a game. But the gushing was very extreme, considering both of those players have been great for many many years. Over Cabrera, the announcers seems surprised, like this was breaking news that he knows how to play.

^ I had the volume turned down, the announcers were gushing over Cabrera too much. Same thing when I watch hockey and the Penguins are on, turn down the volume so I don't have to listen to the announcers blowing a wad over Crosby.

Rockies put up 10 runs against the Giants 2 days in a row. They rocked Bumgarner for 9 runs on Friday and Timmy for 6 runs yesterday. Tulo had a strong game yesterday, 4-5 with 2 RBI and 1 R.

Damn jays just can't win at all in Yankee stadium. In the 4 wins, they scored 36 runs playing small-ball. Now it seems like they went back to their losing ways by swinging for the fences.

So much for that 4 game win streak. At this point, Jays would have to start sweeping every other series just to salvage the season for a wildcard spot.
Also looks like my westcoast baseball trip is a no-go this year. Just one too many peeps dropping out. Oh well, maybe next year.

Seriously, backing cain well. I still don't like that we have to resort to rallying to win but I guess I shouldn't be complaining at all because we are winning. Just not used to our starting pitching getting beat up on such a consistent basis |

Was lookin up games to see in the SD/LA area around 4th of July. SD unfortunately is on a road trip that week. Angels are givin away "trout farm" t-shirts for the 4th and 5th for anyone in section 101 of their stadium (homerun depth but just outside the foul line in left field. They're playin STL for one of the games, and the Bosox for the latter. Would really like to see either one.
The M's did surprise me and take 2/3 at the Yanks. Now they visit the Indians for a 4-game set. Histociarlly, Indians have kinda owned the Ms, so hoping the Ms can turn that one around. One game south of .500, and we're already at the 1/4 point of the season.. crazy! |

Jays have a 3 game series against the Yankees. Hope the run support can continue.
