Can't believe the A's signed Cespeda to a big deal, 4yrs/$36mil for a team that's almost allergic to spending money. Now to see if he actually produces.

Damn, that's big news, I didn't know Oakland was in the running for him.  I read about Miami, Detroit, Chicago and a few other teams pursuing him but never Oakland.  I guess it's similar to how Detroit signed Prince fielder just a day or two after the Tiger's GM said they were not pursuing Fielder.

I think they know they won't be competitive until the stadium situation is resolved (and their possible move to San Jose).  With the Rangers and the Angels becoming such heavy hitters, maybe they just assume they will eat Cespeda's development years.

It is strange to see the A's spend money like that especially after reading and watching moneyball. what's goin on? lol

The rays just extended joe maddons contract by 3 years. He should defininetly get a bigger extentsion then that in my opinion he took them to the playoffs 3 times in the past 4 seasons.

Lighting, the phillies lost to the cardinals the same team that went through everyone in the playoffs they just happened to see them first round, if it was an extended 7 game series, instead of a 5 game series, there is not doubt in my mind the phillies would have won the that series and possibly the world series, with you cant face an Ace every night in a 7 game series and win the series. But we will just have to wait and see how the phillies do this year.

Why did the A's sign this Cuban dude after they gave away their pitching staff?

Don't understand the master plan here...

The A's tend to spend tons of money on players that most of the time aren't even worth it, or at least not when they were signed

manny still has to serve the 50 game suspension if he comes back doesn't he?

This being his second violation, he should have had to serve a 100 game suspension.  But MLB apparently reduced it, and he will only have to serve another 50 gamer.

I just read that the yankee's agreed to a one-year deal with raul ibanez for 1.1 million plus incentives. I cant believe that the phillies gave him up i mean he had his moments of just not being able to do anything but when he was hot he won the phillies a good bit of games.

Obviously it's to bring fans to the stadium, maybe benefit from Manny wanting to show something again and hitting a little. But you're gonna have Manny being Manny in a clubhouse with lots of young guys, that should be fun.

Manny is a good pickup for the price.  You have to up your arsenal when the Angels are just getting stronger.  The sad part about Manny is that he doesn't care about his reputation or his body.  I think he is going to be the new test market for the next undetectable steroid.
