THE WAX THREAD!!!

Holy Crap! I was going to start waxing and sharpening my boards myself, and it looks like these links contain everything I ever wanted toknow and then some. Maybe I'll start next season, as it is going to take me at least that long to get through all this material. Thanks DTJoe!!

When I was younger I saw a kid with an abundance of wax on his snowboard so I asked him what kind of wax he used...he told me he had used a candle and didn't scrap it off. He said he that is a little wax can make you go fast a lot will work even better.
So I briefly told him the steps of how to actually wax a snowboard but these videos would have helped a lot more.

Rub on wax might stay for 2 or 3 runs.. A proper hotwax will last 2-4 days depending on snow conditions and wax used.

dont wait til next season to buy your stuff though. REI's end of the season sale has everything you need for waxing at 50% off. Should be in a month or two.

You should be brushing the wax off the scraper as you go.. I tend to use a paper towel.

Do brand new boards come pre-waxed or is it a good idea to wax it before you go out??

the factory wax will probably only last you a day. hand waxing a new coat will give it a bit more to glide on and last 2-3 more days than the factory stuff.

I was my board in the living room, but we lay out newspapers on the floor to catch any wax that falls down.  

I am looking into purchasing the Dakine Super Tune Kit and was wondering if it is really worth the price. Also I am new to the skiing world and just bought my first set of skis so any assistance would be great.

That Hertel Super Hot Sauce is great stuff!!!  Esp at the bulk price! I got the 3/4 lb brick over a yr ago and still have a lot of it left, at least 75% of it.  and I do a good # of wax jobs on my boards and friends. A little goes a long way and it holds up well like not-ewrx stated.  It's non PTFE, non fluorocarbon and biodegradable.  Good and fast too!!!  I recommend it highly.

Christ on a cracker it blows me away everyday to see how much people are over thinking all of this. Sorry jhoang6, not trying to use you as an example, but damn...you even said yourself that the scratches were small. I am sure all the scratches didn't come from one run of riding. Did YOU notice any difference in performance of the board? Bet 5 bucks you didn't. Wax will not fill your scratches up. Once any flex is put on the board, or friction the wax will ride out of the scratch or gash. Your dude at he shop is right. No BS, no lies, probably no shitty wax job. I once rode a board with a cracked tail, 5 inches of missing edge, and about another 5 inches of base missing from one of my boards. Rode that bitch for over a month like that, no problem. There have been many posts about people riding with core shots all day and didn't really notice until they stopped for lunch or something and saw the shot.

If the scrape is deeper than say, 10 gauge speaker wire, ptex that shit and keep riding. If not, more than likely it's going to be fine and you should just ride the piss out of it. JUST RIDE PEOPLE!!!

LoL thanks guys. I honestly thought that the wax would fill it up, how long it would stay in there is another story.. & for the reasons panther pointed out, yes I would over think it i don't have cash to just drop on a new board every year or every other year.  I want to take care of my shit the best I can and within budget or least cost possible.
