When I was younger I saw a kid with an abundance of wax on his snowboard so I asked him what kind of wax he used...he told me he had used a candle and didn't scrap it off. He said he that is a little wax can make you go fast a lot will work even better.
So I briefly told him the steps of how to actually wax a snowboard but these videos would have helped a lot more. |

Rub on wax might stay for 2 or 3 runs.. A proper hotwax will last 2-4 days depending on snow conditions and wax used. |

Yup, looks like Brody changed the settings for his vids. Too bad since it was very informative.
While I can't vouch for all the advice in the following vid, it sure is entertaining!

here's a question, after my first wax i noticed there's a ton of leftover wax stuck on the scraper itself, any good way to get rid of that and clean it up before i do another waxing?

You should be brushing the wax off the scraper as you go.. I tend to use a paper towel.

the factory wax will probably only last you a day. hand waxing a new coat will give it a bit more to glide on and last 2-3 more days than the factory stuff.

I vacuum the wax shavings as I scrape so no wax gets on the kitchen floor. I do a crayon on/ rub on move when I wax, so I don't have to scrape too much. It really helps to minimize the scraping and the vacuuming ![]() |

That Hertel Super Hot Sauce is great stuff!!! Esp at the bulk price! I got the 3/4 lb brick over a yr ago and still have a lot of it left, at least 75% of it. and I do a good # of wax jobs on my boards and friends. A little goes a long way and it holds up well like not-ewrx stated. It's non PTFE, non fluorocarbon and biodegradable. Good and fast too!!! I recommend it highly. |

it's not bad the only thing i'd say is that the brush that you'll be using in there is a bit small. imagine covering the entire surface of your ski or board. it'll be a pain. good kit to start with but get a bigger brush. i'd say wait for the sales as it's the end of the season coming up. don't buy yet.

yeah that's right. i saw it on dogfunk and backcountry 1st 2 listing and it didn't say so i assumed it was for the board. but i'm surprised with everything they give you and there's no brush for the board. strange. well there is the scotch bright pad but i guess whichever floats ur boat.

Nice compilation but what would make a good wax job? Or how would you know if it is done correctly?
I just recently got my board waxed for the 1st time. There were some small gashes/scratches in it and I thought with a nice fresh new coat of wax the bottom of the board would be smooth with the scratches filled in. But I still see and feel the scratches. The tech shop guy said that my base is just scratched and the wax won't fill it in.. that it also won't affect the performance or won't be able to feel the difference. I probably hit/ran over some ice chunks. This guy just giving me bs and did a shoddy job or is this true?

Christ on a cracker it blows me away everyday to see how much people are over thinking all of this. Sorry jhoang6, not trying to use you as an example, but damn...you even said yourself that the scratches were small. I am sure all the scratches didn't come from one run of riding. Did YOU notice any difference in performance of the board? Bet 5 bucks you didn't. Wax will not fill your scratches up. Once any flex is put on the board, or friction the wax will ride out of the scratch or gash. Your dude at he shop is right. No BS, no lies, probably no shitty wax job. I once rode a board with a cracked tail, 5 inches of missing edge, and about another 5 inches of base missing from one of my boards. Rode that bitch for over a month like that, no problem. There have been many posts about people riding with core shots all day and didn't really notice until they stopped for lunch or something and saw the shot. If the scrape is deeper than say, 10 gauge speaker wire, ptex that shit and keep riding. If not, more than likely it's going to be fine and you should just ride the piss out of it. JUST RIDE PEOPLE!!! ![]() |

![]() Ok, let's think about this for a second...you already know how to wax a board and what it should look like, and how to treat it and whatnot...HE DOESN'T. do you think he wants you telling him he's an idiot and have some dick over the internet telling him his questions are BS?? if you're pissed at the forums or don't like the thread, GTFO. no one wants you slamming everyone for asking honest questions. all it needs is a respectful answer about "no, it's not going to affect the performance of your board." some people don't have the easiest time dropping $1k on snowboarding gear, and when they do, and it gets damaged or even just "normal" wear and tear, they want to know if its problematic. nothing wrong with that.

LoL thanks guys. I honestly thought that the wax would fill it up, how long it would stay in there is another story.. & for the reasons panther pointed out, yes I would over think it i don't have cash to just drop on a new board every year or every other year. I want to take care of my shit the best I can and within budget or least cost possible.
I also don't have the luxury of riding everyday so I don't know if there's a difference in performance(haven't gone out yet).. I'm hoping after the wax job my board will be more slick. I would love to JUST RIDE. thanks again for the input tho! edit: what happened to the video? its gone private.

Nice! the Waxing for Storage helps the most as I already know how to wax. So i'm keeping a layer on for the summer and scrape when it's ready to ride.

Any aussie/nz/euro guys who's countries use 240v find a good solution for a waxing iron you can take to usa? For starters in australia they are ridiculously expensive ($120...) and they are 240v, I assume if i take this to the states/canada it wont work (will ride there more than i will ride here/nz) and if i get a 110/120v one from usa it will get fried if I use it here?
Anyone know of any irons (specific models - snowboard specific irons) that have a decent voltage range? (110-240v)? Really just want one iron I can use anywhere. Also im well aware I can just use any cheap iron, and will no doubt end up going that way if i cant find one that can do both voltages, just thought someone on here might know of one. Cheers |
