I used to screw all my old boards in my wall. My bedroom was in the basement. My mom went down there and raged because of it haha. She threw them all away.

I have a good portion of my shed dedicated to all my sweet old skateboarding stuff. Broken boards, old trucks, a bunch of bushings and hardware. Brings so many great memorize looking through them all.

Haven't skateboarded in a while cause of the cold. I hate this period here where its too cold to skate but not enough to make snow.

My friend used to have a halfpipe in his backyard. 5 ft on one side and 6 ft on the other. All covered and a place to chill and play music. Then the City of Portland came and made him take it down because of regulations. |

Will be building a longboard in woods class. My teacher does it without the typical press with all the clamps and stuff. Still don't fully understand how else it will work but the guy know's his stuff. Pretty stoked.

Looks like temps are finally dipping and staying below 32 degrees here. Doesn't look like I'll be back on a board skating until things start warming up in the spring time. Really wish at times like this there was an indoor park that's really close to me.

Heres a little edit of me skating in the summer time. Everything was filmed in a few days and thrown together for fun. AND if someone could make the video appear on the forum instead of being a link that would be great. I don't know how. |

Maybe if we are ever in each others towns some day we could go skateboarding together! I have been boarding for around 9 years now, skateboarding, wake boarding, and snow boarding.

It helps. You might not think so, but compared to someone who's never ridden any type of board it makes a huge difference.

rurchan: I love skating, most of my friends are pretty good skaters, I'm a decent snowboarder though and I'm terrible on a skateboard. I could see it maybe being a little helpful... I ride regular on a skate deck but goofy on a snowboard and it makes me a better switch rider on my board. So maybe if I skated more then my snowboard experience would help out.

I find that my snowboarding has improved from skateboarding because the motions are relatively similar. It's a good thing to do in the off-season in my opinion.

What do you know about shooting skateboarding with wet plate photography. So rad. Look out for my friend to be at a Portland skatepark near you this summer!

Sorry to disappoint, but he doesn't skate, he just is a photographer that currently lives in Portland. He said there is a slight chance he might take his get up to parks this summer to play around with different shots. He DID turn is BMW 3 wagon into a mobile dark room. It is a big ordeal though to set something like this up in the real world. Camera is from 1907 I think, and the lens is even older. There is a good amount of logistics that would come about setting it up in the middle of a park. Might piss off some people, might make some people really stoked. Who knows. But like I said, there is a possibility he does it some where around Portland this year. He does have a full studio he works out of somewhere near down town, and will shoot pretty much anything you ask for dollars....btw ![]() |

I used to skate quite a bit when I was younger, but now I've picked up longboarding. It's much easier and you can typically cruise to where you want to go, as a mode of transport I would have to definitely pick longboarding over skateboarding.

I used to skate from age 8 - 12.. just to get around a bit faster than walking.. to like school and the shops.. I surf and snowboard.. so thought recently that I would try skateboarding again.
In two weeks I've learn how to pump in a half pipe, ollie, ollie 180, get the spin down on a kickflip.. now I just need to be able to land on it.. think I'm doing pretty well... now I just need to man up and drop in or rock onto coping without being scared of falling :( Slowly but surely getting there! |

depends what you want to do. three basic things. if you want to get into the "trick" side of skating, get a regular board. if you want to cruise streets and just go on flat ground and make turns, longboard. if you want to cruise streets efficiently but also have the ability to skate it like regular (ollies, etc), get a cruiser (similar to a regular board, but with soft longboard wheels). cruisers are a nice hybrid between the two. also best for travel in my opinion, as you cruise like a longboard (fast, smooth), but they are regular-size, thus easier to transport/carry when not actually skating. I have almost given up all regular skating for cruisers. I think it's most similar to snowboarding too, in that you cruise anywhere smooth, go fast, make turns, but you can still pop up, over, and down things and do tricks if you want. super fun. you could also get two boards, or hell get three if you want. I mostly skate cruisers, but occasionally I get on a regular board if I feel like going to the park. pretty rare though. 20 years in, so I'm burnt out on it.

Check out landyachtz cruiser decks. I think landyachtz has the best of every single type of longboard, for cruisers to downhill. The peacmaker is a great cruiser in particular.

carvers are fun, but not what I'm into since you can't really skate them like normal. I don't like being that high off the ground either. I'm basically not into any of the specialty boards like longboards and pre-made "cruisers" which usually means a small longboard from most longboard companies. the ones I like to ride are more like regular skateboards where you can skate them as such.
a cruiser, at least by my definition, is more or less a wider normal board with risers and longboard wheels, but the board is usually a fun shape. it's the same thing most filmers use as their filming boards. krooked zigzagger for example. same concave, a little wider than normal, nose and tail kick of the same size, but cut in a semi old-school shape. a lot of companies make stuff like that now so you could really just go to your local shop and see what they have, or just google "skateboard cruiser deck," and you get lots of results from various pro companies. it seems like most of them have at least one cruiser shape these days, since they are getting popular. I'm riding a 9" DGK cruiser now, have had a zigzagger, REAL "aces ripper," city godzilla cruiser, a manik cruiser from the noah sinclair boyt series, etc. it doesn't have to be a shape like that though.. some people just like a regular deck but in a wider size, like 8.5" or so. for trucks, you want highs with 1/4" risers because of the larger wheels. for wheels, something in the high 50s or low 60s is pretty perfect if you ask me, and you want them soft. I like 62mm with a 78A durometer, but that's all preference. a lot of wheels companies are making these too.. ricta clouds, satori, spitfire, etc. again, most skateshops would probably have at least a couple cruiser decks/wheels in stock. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() and the far left one here.. gnarly graphic, haha ![]() |
