Heavenly is open on weekends until end of month
Kirkwood is open daily for another week or so, then weekends only until there's no snow

we always close the second weekend of april due to a land lease from the forest service and the insurance period. could be extended, but it's expensive, and eaglecrest is a city subsidized ski area. i don't know how much they make now, but a few years ago we were hearing 30% of their cost had to be funded by the city to keep it open. it's sort of a gift from the city, giving us something awesome, rather than a privately owned place looking to rake in the cash.
anyway, we closed with a 96 inch base at the bottom (1200ft elevation) and 144 inches up top (2600ft elevation). tons of snow left, but... that's not the factor in open vs closed unfortunately. there will be snow into june again...

Since February 25th
Although, I did make it out to Crested Butte, CO over Spring Break. They still had enough snow to hike the peak, don't get me wrong, it was rocky but it beat St. Louis' 90 degree weather with about 75% humidity every day...I can't wait until I get out to Utah for college.

Hey Spenser... Do you do much touring? Sounds like you're in an awesome area to go touring... Snow into June.... eesh... theres snow into late may here... but you've got to hike really far to get to it. |

i got a split this year so we'll be putting those to use in the coming months. may go tomorrow or some time within the next couple days. in the backcountry, it's hot "pow" but still super fun.. and honestly, most of my motivation for post season splitting is just exercise and having a good time outdoors, rather than doing it to go snowboarding. amazing area to split/tour for sure. ENDLESS mountains and areas in all directions and close by. the eaglecrest area is a mecca for it.

Here in the midwest most everyone was closed a month ago (and then some). I'm so jealous of you guys that live anywhere that has a real winter.

most of us in CA live in the valley where there really isn't a "real winter", compared to anything east of the rocky mtns. Anything north of Los Angeles mostly just gets temps down to maybe the low 40s and the occasional rain storm which can last one to a few days. What we do have is fairly high altitude (9000 ft) within a couple hrs drive and those rain storms encounter temps up there just cold enough to snow. Actually, daytime temps rarely get much below freezing even up there...it's weird.

You will all have to come down under and give Australia or NZ a try. You have to be quite quick in Aus as its sometimes just a 10 week season.

we're really getting shafted in socal over hear. last season started late and ended early, and pretty much crappy snow conditions all season except for like 2 weeks when there was a big blizzard
really looking forward to a better 2012-13 season

I really hope we get a lot of snow in California, cuz last season was really bad. There was like no snow and all the resorts closed earlier than usual.
