Topic: Who's Ready For Some FOOTBALL 2012/2013 Season! Posted: Mar/05/2013 at 12:27pm |
And Flacco has earned the SB win and the MVP, hence the big paycheck. Of course, football is a team sport and every win or loss is because of other players. But, in a QB led league, the QB gets the blame and the glory, and the money or lack there of. Is he better than Drew Brees, Tom Brady, Aaron Rodgers, etc? That's all debatable. But which one went to the SB and won the SB MVP this past season, that's not debatable. Ravens had to pay that price to keep Flacco, other teams will be all over him if they don't. Then, who's going to play QB for them?
And I did not not assume that they won because of Flacco. The Raven's D did give up 29 points in the SB. And the run game was not there (93 yards). So, I guess Flacco "managed" to get 3 passing TDs while the D gave up points and the team couldn't get the run game going? Or did Flacco win the game for them?
The guy has "managed" to get in the playoffs every year since rookie year. "Managed" a 60%+ completion in his career. "Managed" 11 TDs and 0 Ints, 117.2 QB rating in this season's playoffs. C'mon, the writing's the wall. Flacco deserves the contract he got. He's not a game "manager", he's a game changer.
And I'm not even a Raven's fan...

I feel like the most interesting part of the Joe Flacco contract is not whether he deserves it or not, its what does this mean for the Raven's salary cap and long term stability in keeping their players. Anyone that follows the Ravens or knows anything about this got any idea? I know they need to pay Ray Rice right?

You'd think they need to pay Rice at some stage, but Pierce showed very promising signs as a rookie so you never know. Teams are ruthless with running backs these days

Rice got a contract last summer. I heard somewhere that they have 80 million tied up to 9 or 10 players and that was before the flacco deal.

It's the classic line when a player is outperforming their contract the organisation says "the player is contracted to the club for x amount of years and will honor their contract"
Yet when they're underperforming. Cut

It will be one of those situations where time will tell. We will see how the Ravens & the Ravens fan feel about Flaco a couple years down the road. 2 years ago they were ready to dump the guy. 2 years from now he might be in that same boat.

Looks like the 49ers are going to have to get creative with their salary cap situation. They have less than $5 million to work with. Which means they will have to release players and or restructure some contracts before March 12th. It will be interesting to see how they are going to handle the backup QB position.

Game changer? I don't think so. He threw his 3TD's in the first half then disappeared for the remainder of the game. I mean, good for Flacco for scoring himself a massive contract off his SB ring but I wouldn't consider him to be part of that "elite" group of QBs just cuz of his ring. He just seem like a flash in the pan and only time will tell whether he's deserving of that money or not. Which begs the question... if Flacco is worth 20M per then what is Kaepernick worth come time to resign him?

and they did. akers was dropped, moving it up to 12mil!
which is a shame...i dont think akers has room for growth on the 49ers, not with his mentally shot condition.
whatever the case, i wish him the best of luck.

I dunno. Nate kaeding was the most accurate kicker in the nfl. But he choked when it counted. Losing the mental edge can really hurt a kicker.

Akers is something like 38 years old and has injury issues. I doubt he makes another team.

Nnamdi is a free agent. Along with cason. There are a lot of cbs in the market. I wonder if theyll get put in a man coverage system this time...

49ers should pick him up. I thought this article was interesting, noting how he is not going to get what he wants out of free agency - http://bleacherreport.com/articles/1556836-greg-jennings-seriously-overvalues-himself-heading-into-nfl-free-agency
I don't know if I agree. I think he skill set is complete and if he is the one go to guy, he could play more of a calvin johnson or brandon marshall type role if he has a quarterback that can get it to him. In Green Bay, he was one of 6 possible targets and so it didn't show what he was capable of as far as total catches, TDs go.

Agreed a team with an established qb could make it worth his skill set and for a lowered price. The chargers are in need of a true #1 reciever still. But they need a better line first.

Would be a great fit! And the Dolphins have plenty of room to work with in the salary cap so they have plenty-o cash to spend.

Wallace would be better. Younger and Jennings has injury issues so would be better to team Wallace with Hartline and Tennehill for the next 5 or so years

ouch, but I think you are right, Norv and AJ turned a once superbowl caliber team into a mediocre team, plus with payton and the broncos D I think it will be tough for the Chargers to contend. I have high hopes for our new coach and new GM, (Monkeys would have been better than Norv and AJ) Maybe in a couple of years the Bolts will be competitive again.

I can't see the 49ers getting anyone with their current cap situation. Besides drafting rookies, they have to sign some of their guys to longer deals. Luckily they have bowman and willis locked up for decent deals.

That team is also going to need a good line to give the qb time. Otherwise wallace wont be able to work his coverage.

Harvin to the seahawks for 3 picks. NFC west getting stronger. Good pick up if he could stay healthy.

Definitely. he's been streaky in his performance. Itll be good for seattle to counter sf's defense with harvin. I wonder how the vikings are going to do in the draft now that theyre loaded on picks.

it'll be good for the niners. they need a possession clutch catching WR. now, if only they can get someone to help them as a deep threat. Its rumored Moss is unlikely to return.

There's plenty of DBs out there, and speaking of kickers, Niners still have one on their shopping list.

That is the focus here. That agent and flacco were able to parlay a 8 game streak of great quarterbacking into the highest contract in the game. Wow.

Would you rather have harvin for a 1st or boldin for a 6th. Harvins better, but thats a hefty price.
Excited for free agency at 4pm.

Harvin's better than any of the options to take in the first round for Seattle.... Boldin for a 6th round pick is a steal! 9ers are going to be a force to reckon with again no doubt. Hopefully Kap stays healthy for them

49ers with Crabtree on one side, Anquan Boldin on the other, Vernon Davis and Frank Gore..and Kaepernick..if they can stay healthy, they'll be the team to beat again in the NFC.
