Bear always opens on Nov 31st while Mammoth always open earlier on the third Sunday in October which has the date as an even number.

Erroneous. It's subject to snow fall. Usually Mt. High opens first, then Bear follows. Last year Bear opened 11/9/11. During a typical season, I remember it being around Thanksgiving.

Fap, maybe you should check your sources. Bear mountain site shows they opened on 11/10/11. http://www.bearmountain.com/snowboard/2011/11/10/bear-is-open-for-winter-2011-12/ |

this site says bear opened 11/9/11.
http://www.snowboardermag.com/exclusives/bear-mountain-opening-day-2011/ and mt high says: says 10/28/11. http://www.mthigh.com/press-release/mountain-high-offers-first-lift-serviced-run-california but if memory serves me right Mt high closed due to rain melting the base they built up. their press releases show a new post titled "opening day coming soon" after that 10/28 post. they eventually opened for the season on 11/5: http://www.mthigh.com/press-release/mountain-high-opens-first-southern-california-15th-straight-year a difference of 4 days is negligible imo, but technically mt high does open sooner than bear by a few days each year. (early to mid november). for a better base and more terrain its best to wait for late november. last season bear only had 1 lift worth riding and it was packed on early season snow. but that might also be because last season everyone had a lack of snow as well. |

yea... as sdwc said, it was probably because last year was pitiful. I remember mid season we got a heat wave and there were puddles about 4 ft wide, 1 ft deep in the lift lines...
AT NIGHT... day time was pretty much unrideable. |

been riding at mt high/bear/mammoth for the past 7 seasons... mt high says they open earlier than bear all the time but in reality... they only opened a beginners section with few jibs and say that they are open!! lol anyways, bear usually follows mt high and open week later or about a day later, IT ALWAYS DEPEND ON THE WEATHER!!! but Mammoth seem to open(still with weather permitting) on the 1st thursday of November, every year! they seem to target that day. but I've seen mt high/bear/mammoth open around Halloween(if the weather permits). so let's pray to snowgod and hopefully he'll let it snow early since the summer is hot as fuck kkk

Sweet!! Time to start contemplating about a pass... Now that June closed, I don't know what I'm going to do. I know I will miss June... Although I now have a favorite touring spot |

^ They can post opening dates because of man made snow. Pretty much all the resorts here know when they are gonna open regardless of what mother nature does. The 2 exceptions that I know of are Loveland and A basin since they usually shoot for early-mid october depending on when it gets cold enough to make snow

yeah Mammoth usually opens 1st thursday of November and only when the weather permits, meaning as long as it's cold enough, they will make snow so that they can open on that date. but very limited runs... just main and stump alley... which isn't worth paying 70+(I think) for some short ass runs...

does anyone know when all the big diamond trails are going to be open. i went to mt high last year and obviously the 2nd part wasn't open the grand view bistro wasn't open. does anyone know when they do? i was stuck riding chisolm and crest trail to the inferno ridge and that got boring quick all the way down to park and little mounds. no fun also for mt bear wondering when those blacks opens also. i'm not a fan of park yet sorry i haven't progressed that far so just wondering if anyone knew when they actually will open it or just depends on the weather. |

Mammoth has a handful of runs open. actually open from top to bottom.
As for bear, it'll be like Mt. High... just a couple runs of 90% manmade ice. They wont be able to open up more until it stays consistently cold. (it was 82F inland today) |

Haven't been to bear this year yet, but from past early season trips i'm sure its icy in the morning, soft by about 10 or 11. Don't go unless your a park rat who likes jibbing. it's not worth your time until more of the mountain opens up.

Come on natural snowfall and cold fronts! LA area resorts are looking pathetic. Latest in the year I've seen it like this in quite some time.
