I have been searching for a helmet for my son and so far the best fitting one is the POC Skull X but they reviews haven't been the best.
Does anyone have any suggestions? Thanks in advance. |

I have the Red Trace 0.5 Youth helmets for my sons and (thankfully) neither one has put it to the test. The helmet fits well and seems to be well constructed. Wish I could offer more info but that's all I have...

how old is your toddler? my oldest started wearing this one at age 4 (he's 6 now and the helmet still fits)
i like it because you can remove the fleece liner and use it as a bike/skate helmet in the summer, very good quality. i got this for my younger son last year when he was 3. winter season only but the quality and construction are excellent |

You need to get the best fitting one, that one will be safest. You can have the best helmet in the world but if it doesn fit properly then whats the point. Helmet companies have standards they hav to meet so to say one is better than the next is hard to say.

My son started wearing the Giro Slingshot since he was 4. It has an adjustable dial and he still fits now at age 6. We tried fitting different ones at the shop and that was the best fit. It came with matching goggles too.

I have the Red Trace Grom. My son has been using since 3yrs old and it still fits at 6 yrs. The Trace works really well for here(SoCal). Many vents/open design for the warmer weather and the removable earflaps work really well as an off hill bike/scooter helmet. Just remember, buy what fits and dont buy big. Kids grow, but their heads grow a lot slower than their bodies.

My son has always used either RED or ProTec helmets. Not for any other reason than that's what he picked. Make sure you get something that covers his head well. Dont try to make him look "cool" with a minimal helmet. Little guys don't have that much control when they fall or run into people so protect him as much as possible. The less injuries he has the more he will like it.
how big is his head. If my son still has his old one you can have it if it fits and you pay for shipping. I haven't seen it in a while so I might not have it but i'll check the size if i find it. But it might be cheaper for you to buy one locally. |

Thank you everyone for the input, I really appreciate it! I am not worried about him looking cool, I just want him protected. I will probably need a warmer helmet since in the next few months we are most likley moving to Burlington, VT
I measured it a few months ago but I think he is 48-49cm |

That lid looks legit! My son who just turned 5 wears a Giro (looks very similar to that one, but a different graphic) and he loves it. I got my daughter, who is a little older and has a massive dome, a K2 with the adjustable dial. Lightening is right about the dial, it really helps get a snug fit. This will be her third year with that helmet.
Your kid is lucky he has a dad who will take him out and teach him - he'll be a beast on the snow by the time he's six! |

Thank you, we we searching for the right helmet for awhile now and then the new products came out we saw it, tried it on and then we bought it!
We is so stoked to ride, every few days he asks me to watch The Art of Flight! I am just happy to share my love of snowboarding with him! How long have your kids been on snow? |

This is their third year. They have snowboarded, but they mostly ski. My son begs to ride but we want them to learn to ski well first. He also loves Art of Flight - it's funny to watch him watching it and the faces he makes. Pretty sure its the same face I made when I first watched it.
We got out Friday for the first time this year and I was surprised how good they were. Handling blue runs like they owned them! They learn so quickly, I wish someone had taken me when I was little. |

That is awesome!I am hoping my son enjoys snowboarding half as much as I do (it will give me an excuse to go)
For some reason my son enjoys more back county parts then the urban parts. he does enjoy Scott Stevens part in Defenders of Awesome. I too wish I learned to ride at an earlier age, I was skiing at 3 but I stopped going when I was about 10. I think I am more excited then he is to go.

I don't know, he looks pretty fired up. Here's my kid on a snowboard. For anyone in the Tahoe area, Soda Springs is a great place to take first-timers. ![]() |
