Well, folks! The season is but 10 days away at this point, with games scheduled to begin on November 9th.. The NBA thread has already started, so I suppose it's time to get this thing kicked off!
AP Polls were released on the 26th of October, and the top few teams are: 1.Indiana (43) 2.Louisville (20) 3.Kentucky (2) 4.Ohio St. 5.Michigan 6.N.C. State Similar to NCAA football, I'm really not a fan of pre-season rankings, but seeing Indiana at the top was a bit of a surprise! They played well last year, but it didn't seem like they were climbing the pile that quickly! And I love that NC State tops the list as far as ACC teams go. Way to knock Duke and UNC off their high horses! |

I think Kansas should be ranked in the top five. They got a couple of great freshman coming in this year. I know they lost Thomas Robinson but Jeff Withey is a shot blocking machine. As always Kentucky is going to be great again.

Kansas isn't too far out in the 7 spot, but their schedule isn't too grueling. A couple Pac 12 teams in the mix (including my Cougs, who recently dismissed a player for violating team rules (Read: puff puff, pass)), but none of those are teams in the top 25% of the conference.
Either way, pretty much anyone starting in the top 10 is all but guaranteed a shot at the title come March, so nothing too bad about that :) |

I kind of hope that Kentucky stumbles this year. If their new recruits carry the team to a second straight National Championship, why would future top-10 recruits want to sign anywhere else?

I would love to see Kentucky struggle as well. I'm tired of Coach Cal getting 80% of the one and done's in recruiting every year.

Nice to see the lot of you in here :). Was wondering if many people would find this thing. Perhaps I'll post a link in the All Sports thread, so the rest of the regulars are aware :).
DONE! Calipari's image always makes me think of a 1930's gangster. He's almost as greasy/sleazy looking as Rick Pitino. I never seem to find myself cheering for either of their programs. My beloved Cougs (not ranked, no surprise lol) kicked a player off the team for "violation of team rules". The player had been in trouble before, after being found in possession of marijuana. Unfortunately it's been a plague of an issue with WSU sports (not to say that's the reason their football team sucks.. that's... another thread lol), but losing a senior starting player is never good news. |

It is! But I'm all for a new face in the ACC. Hate Duke, and kinda bored with seeing UNC at the top (it's not like they won't be back there next year). Roy Williams is a hell of a coach, and the letters "UNC" recruit for themselves. But in the meanwhile.. go wolfpack!

So what's everyone think after the first few days of action?
Noticed a few teams in the top 25 haven't played yet, so I'll stay tuned for those. Kentucky had a very close match with the Terps on Friday, and Mich St dropped 10 spots after losing to UConn. Lots of bball to come folks! should be a good season. |

Both Kansas and Kentucky took a loss last night.
UK lost to the dukies (both of whom I'm no fan of). Trailing by 2 at halftime, Calipari asserted "They're flopping all over the place. In the NBA, they'd all be suspended." In the post-game interview, he was asked about making that assertion. His response: "I did? I don't even remember. What did I say?" A reporter tried to quote Cal to give him a refresher, but he interjected ""It was a joke! Come on, you guys can take a joke at Duke. Geez." We all know some teams flop more than others, and many would argue Duke is right near (if not at) the top of that list, but it's not like UK hasn't gotten a favorable call or two in recent years. It's part of being a superstar program. Think it's time for Calipari to stop playing underdog, eh? |

Indiana's been killin it! Georgetown certainly put up a fight (in regulation anyhow, OT was a bit lopsided). Gonna try to watch their matchup with UNC next week. Most of the Big10 is doing really well so far. Seven undefeated teams, though not many have played opponents of substance. Still impressive that that many teams have gone without a slip up!
My main reason for coming in here... Did anyone see the hurt Butler put on UNC last night? I was at the gym and that game was ridiculous. Butler did anything and everything they wanted with UNC in the first half. Held em to 1 offensive rebound in the first half, 9 in the entire game (they average 19 a game), rained threes, got to the line for 25 attempts (sank 20) and had a solid post-up game. Really impressive outing. Speaking of impressive outings... Did anyone see this? A guard scores 138 points in a game |

How about the Big Ten winning the Maui Tournament, NIT tournament, and Legends classic to start the year off. Next week should be fun with the ACC vs Big Ten. UNC vs Indiana, Michigan vs NC State, OSU vs Duke.

That indeed is a hell of a lineup. Probably most interested with the UNC/Indiana matchup. Would totally be rooting for Indiana in that one, and they're off to a great start, but I wanna see how they fare against really solid competition. ALso love that the Zags won the Old Spice Classic. :D When the rankings are updated tomorrow, I would have to assume the Blue Devils will overtake the #1 spot. Having taken out a then #2-ranked Kentucky team, and beating a current #2-ranked Louisville team this weekend, they have certainly had the most difficult schedule in college bball to date. I don't like em, but at this point it seems deserved. |

We're still on our first page here?! wtf! surely this forum should be getting some more attention!
Butler really has become the epitome of a "giant killer" team. Already beating UNC and Indiana proves they can play with the big boys on any given Saturday. (Though, their losses to Illinois and Xavier were uninspiring). They'll still be one of the more fun teams to watch come March. Actually REALLY looking forward to seeing them match up with the Zags on Jan 19th. Two SOLID non-power conference teams going head to head.. what's not to like?! |

It was against Eastern but it was nice to see Michigan playing five freshman and still dominating the game. In response to j_lucky butler has a great coach and enough talent, they are a scary draw in the tourny.

Tim, I wish I could say yes, but I'm really not. Coach K is brilliant, the word "Duke" alone does all their recruiting for em. It's just a matter of execution and these kids seem to have it all figured out this year. I don't like Duke, but it's impressive seeing what they've done with the season so far.
I will admit i WAS surprised to see Duke's non-conf schedule to be as tough as it is. Generally too many ACC teams ride their basketball god complex through December. This year they have certainly earned their rating. |

Nice win for Purdue last night over Illinois, just goes to show how tough winning in the big ten this year. Should be a fun season to watch and I think the winner will have at least 4 losses.

Duke, Mich and Zona are all formidable opponents this season. Just tearing it up!
Duke has ripped through everything thrown at em this season. It's really quite remarkable. And of the unbeatens, I almost feel like they have the best shot of remaining that way through the course of the season. The ACC doesn't quite look as stacked as it has been in years past. Mich is off to its best start since 85/86 (also 14-straight wins). Haven is right about the Big 10 being crazy good this season. Arizona is 13-0, which is their best start since a 16-0 run in 1932-33. I'm actually kinda surprised by this, as Lute Olson's reign at Zona had some ridiculously good teams. (After looking into it, they played some rough non-conf schedules). I think Zona's biggest obstacle at this point is that they haven't played a ranked opponent in an away game yet. While they've certainly proven to be scrappy, it could get rough come March. Not to take any credit away from the 1-loss teams. There are gonna be some AWESOME games in the tourney this March. I'm getting my red pen prepped for my picks already :)) . |

Arizona would have lost last night if the ref's wouldn't have screwed Colorado over. I'm no CU fan but that shot was clearly out of that kids hand when the buzzer went off.

The Colorado call was bogus. Also what happened to OSU? They didn't even bother to get off the bus as Illinois crushed them. Then Michigan continued to roll beating Iowa by 28.

Great game between Michigan and Ohio State, Michigan was down 21 and tied the game but couldn't ever grab the lead. It is going to be hard to win on the road in the Big Ten. I am glad there is good basketball right now because there is no snow in the Midwest.

I think you're right, Haven. Betting a number of oft-winning teams will
have some less-than-impressive road records this year, especially in the
big 10. Both remaining unbeaten teams fell this weekend, and both on the road. I imagine Duke will still remain on top of the pack, solely based on RPI. Mich might swap with Louisville, but either way, they have a match-up at the Gophers on Thursday. Tough week!

Great game going on between Michigan and Minnesota, both teams ranked in the top 10 and both teams coming off a loss on the road. Michigan is starting to open up the game, up 11 with 15 minutes left in the 2nd half.

Michigan really took charge in that game. Minnesota has been really impressive, so to Mich do that on the road, really speaks to their toughness. They are going to be strong in the tourney this year.
