I personally have a UA hood which I love, it goes down far enough on my neck it keeps me warm. I also have a Yowie from Outdoor Tech and it's really nice as well. A full UA hood is pretty snug to the face, a Yowie tends not to be as tight. Personal preference there.

I find a scarf does way more than a sweater sometimes, so yes it is definitely worth getting something for your neck. Only thing is, if you use it to cover your mouth and moisture accumulates, it becomes incredibly irritating. I use a scarf and then a lighter material bandana or Ride Qi to cover my mouth to avoid this.

I just got this:
http://www.burton.com/mens-first-layer-lightweight-facemask/278787,default,pd.html?start=54&cgid=mens-beanies I think it is great becasue you can breathe without traping the humidity of your breath and it has little strings that go over your ear so it doesn;t ride down. Also you can eat drink or blow your nose without taking it off. |

Our shop got a bunch of Burton LTR bandannas to give out to kids. I snagged a couple and usually rock these.
![]() I used to wear a fleece neck gaiter but that really trapped the moister from my mouth when I pulled it up over my face. Unless it's really warm out, I always ride with something covering my face.

It's definitely worth it. I personally love them. I got a hat that has a face mask attached to it and it goes down to my neck too. Great breathability and keeps your face out of the snow.

It's a must have for me. I use those ones where you can convert it into like 9 different things. I never had a moisture issue and it is very breathable. Works well when it's cold and windy because getting hit in the face by ice hurts.

I have a Coal neck gaiter and I love it. Either keep it up around the nose or down when its warmer.

This. I actually hate riding with mine up because it slips from my face, but it's pretty fabulous and low-key chilling around my neck.

I use a Kuiu neck gator. 100% merino wool. Really soft on your skin and ultra warm. The merino wool does a great job of moving moisture away from your skin and doesn't stink after a long day like synthetic materials. I can wear mine for a week straight without wash and it still smells fine (although i don't do that very often) ;)

The gaiter is essential. I have the coal neck gaiter too and I wear it up on my face but it slides off if you don't put the bottom of your goggles over it but I usually just keep it around my neck and it keeps you warm.

I use a Loki 5-in-1 face gaiter. Wins everytime - Beanie, balaclava, nose, mouth. All levels of coverage. Easily the best thing I've bought all working holiday.

I recommend Airholes. Theyve got tie-up, pull over and standard types
They definitely prevent your goggles from fogging up when youre covering your face with them because theyve got little holes for your breath to escape From my experience theyre real warm and the inner lining is soft on your skin Loads of designs as well, I think theyre quite sweet

I, too, recommend Airhole Face Masks. I just bought one because it was at an after Christmas sale price, and it arrived last week. Was able to use it this weekend and LOVED it. I board at night, and the runs are shadowy in places, and fogged goggles mean
for me. I had no problems with fogging because of the airhole. FWIW, I've tried balaclava masks and ended up feeling claustrophibic. I'm quite happy that I stumbled upon the Airhole face mask.

I can't believe people still wear bandanas. They are not functional at all, they freeze all the time and don't keep your neck warm.
Any neck gaiter will do the job, I use a cheap $3 one I picked up at TJ Maxx a few years back. I also have a Neff knited one and a knited AG gaiter that has fleece inside.

^^ I had neck gaiters before and didn't like them. Tried full face mask and half face mask with thin scarf and didn't like that either. Now I use a bandana/scarf type to cover my face and neck and I love it. It's twice the size of a regular bandana, 10 times the softness, 5 times thinner, and really soft/puffy (don't quote me on my softness and thickness rating, it's a guess.) Any who, it's big enough to cover from my face to lower part of my chest (I bundle any extra to my neck and it's super comfy, like the softness, ventilation, and warmth is so nice.) Doesn't fog up my goggles too! My point is that you just gotta find the right one that works. not all bandanas are crap. It didn't come from a snowboard brand but my gf got it for me from the mall dirt cheap. That's my story and I'm sticking to it

I have a couple no name fleece neck gators that I'll wear if I really need to, but honestly my neck never seems to get all that cold. 20's or above and I barely even bother zipping my jacket all the way.
I will however throw out another thumbs up for the Under Armor hood. On a cold day it definitely keeps my face from freezing off, as well as providing some wind/snow protection for the skin. Put that on under my helmet and tuck it into my jacket before zipping the collar and I'm good to go on even the coldest of days. (Edit: Dammit, never looked at the OP post date. Didn't meant to help bumping an old post) |
