Hey everyone, been a while since I've ridden and I'm out of the loop gear wise. I'm looking to add a second board geared towards powder/cliffs/big mountain riding. I usually ride the east coast so my current board is a 159 battalion riot w/ cartels which I use for everything, including the rare east coast powder day. Its perfect for east coast riding and I love it as a park board but I want something more serious when I go on trips out West or to Europe. I'm 6'4", 225lbs and my boots are size 12 thirtytwo's. My thoughts on my current board/bindings are it's def too short for powder/charging hard and the bindings are way too soft for anything other than park.
What board would be good for everything from groomers to big cliffs, lines and powder? I'm a big guy and ride really hard so anything other than super stiff is no good. I'm also looking for some good stiff freeride bindings, not super in love with my cartels and would prefer something non Burton (don't like the fit). Thanks!

I would say not the mountain twin nor the solution, the Jones flagship though would be a good choice, the never summers scorer said are also good, to add to it there's the lib tech skunk ape if you wanted a twin, the lib tech dark series would be an awesome choice in 164 and personally has my vote from what it sounds like you're after a killer board I ride something pretty similar as my board for that kind of riding.
on bindings I had a pair of ride spi's for the last 3 seasons great binding they don't make them any more but they're nice if you want to look, the make another one that's even stiffer now. I just ordered a pair of union chargers I'll let you know how they are when I get them if you want.

Thanks for the reply. I was looking at the Jones Flagship and the reviews look really good, the only knock being it was on the heavier side (which should be expected). Would the 168w be more board than I need? I've never ridden anything longer than 163 so I'm not sure what to expect but for a powder/all mountain board it seems like it would work well with my size.

nah 168 would probably be good unless you have really big feet you might want to just go with the non- wide version (i weigh 165 and ride a 162 for that kind of riding and a 167 sometimes) , don't worry about the weight to much people make a bigger deal out of it then they should, just be a man and make you board do what you want it to do, weight can actually be your friend, if you're set up is to light you can get bounced around a lot more it won't cut through stuff when you're charging hard.
I really do recommend at least taking a good look at the dark series as well though great board and the c2 camber profile is going to be pretty hard to beat.

If you like Bataleon, try their Goliath. Is their big all mountain killer from park to pow. I read lots of reviews and had talk to a couple of guys that were riding it. was very interested but they never made it for my size.

i ride a 166 camber that is super fast... i actually have never waxed it because of how fast the board is... anything over a 166 would scare me to death and i am the exact same body type as you are... im actually looking to downsize to the 158-160 area... but i just wanted to put my 2 cents in to let you know that these big boards are super fast and it may scare you.

I've spent a couple days out on my union chargers now pretty awesome binding haven't put them on my AG yet because we just haven't had the snow for that board but I've got them on my renegade and they feel awesome.

I owned the riot for a while and, other than the stiffness, it's definitely the opposite of "big mtn".
I've also been riding an bataleon Undisputed 163 cm for years now in anything from knee to chest deep (which my local mtn gets several times a year) with very floaty results...in fact, I can't imagine riding much else. Pair the Undisputed with a set of Targa bindings and you got a kick-ass pow setup that does the all mtn freeride thing pretty damn good, too. the Omni might be another good choice if you think you'll mostly be riding lighter "champagne" powder. Personally, I found it too flexy when the pow is heavier |

Check out these boards and bindings. Both are pretty stiff and the sizes are bout your weight range. My buddy that used to ride these gears are very similar to your size. |
