china peak isn't even worth bottom tier? BS ...and dodge ridge is bigger and better than boreal (so is CP, imo)

OP says this is a list of places he's been to...so, he probably hasn't been to China Peak...

It all depends on what you're looking for in a resort. If you like amenities and the resort-feeling, then I'd def agree with your above ranking system. But I haven't been to N* so no input there.

if you enjoy riding, heavenly moves to middle. for pure restaurants/village, easily a top tier.
northstar and squaw probably top tier for both. kirkwood is top notch riding, mid level amenities.

Northstar should definately be in the top tier. It has one of the best terrain parks I've ever ridden and has the most powder :)

Kirkwood is the biggest little secret - it's where all the locals would go.

Kirkwood has some of the best lines you could hope for on a snowboard and none of the squallwood stuff to go with it.
Top tier for me would be Alpine (Squaw terrain with 1/2 the BS), Kirkwood, Northstar

We are going to south tahoe in March my friend wants to ride at sierra for 3 days, but I like going to different resorts, would you guys say it's worth the extra drive and money to try to go to northstar and squaw? Sierra sells 3 pack of tickets for $165, I think we will be spending over $250 in lift tickets if we decide to go to other resorts.

Yeah we decided to just ride Sierra, it seems to be a pretty cool place. I can use to $100 for more snowboard gear..

Sierra is cool but a little small for my liking. I guess growing up in Colorado has accustomed me to larger resorts.

We just purchased our 3 day tickets for sierra. I guess it will be cool since I have never been there. I would love to see northstar but it's about an hour from where we are staying, and I kinda don't feel like waking up 1 hour earlier.

been to colorado, vail is a huge place, lots of flats, but I agree on how big the place is, been to keystone breck and on other place I don't remember anymore. Also been to park city and the canyons huge resorts. as far as cali, been to mammoth (lots) squaw, which I really like, and sugar bowl. I kinda wanted to see northstar and squaw this year but price and the extra time wasnt worth it. Heavenly is close to where we are staying but my friend said heavenly is not very good..

regarding the northstar's black/blue/green trail difficulty rating system. how would you compare northstar's blacks to squaw's blue's?

Heavenly is good but you got to know where to go. It's a bit confusing with a lot of flats. Tree riding is amazing. No trees at Squaw. Powder stays in the trees for a few days after a storm. Definitely hit it up if you stay close by, then hit the casinos after.

^true, on a day with fresh snow, there's plenty of advanced areas to explore. Most people go there on a hardpack day(s) and judge the resort solely on that...plus, they only go on the more standard runs and don't explore all heavenly's peaks.
Heavenly also has some of the longest runs anywhere. The longest is from the top of the sky express lift all the way to boulder lodge, which is like 10 miles...granted, there are a few flat spots along the way, but they're makeble if you just keep up some speed. there are plenty of glades at squaw...once again, you have to check out the whole resort, not just the standard hardpack runs |

I love riding powder when I can get them, I wish I could just take off work whenever there is a storm coming but I can't. We have to plan our outings months in advance, I wish I had a magic 8 ball that would tell me when a storm is coming so I can plan my trips accordingly. Also living in San Diego, Mammoth is a good 5 hours away tahoe even further so, I can just go on a whim.. Hoping for snow march 18-22..

I generally agree with that. However, so many gapers go to Heavenly that powder is left days after a storm. The gapers don't go off the path or search for anything. Thanks gapers for leaving it for me!

I gotta throw in my $.02 here. N* is my favorite Tahoe are resort because of its terrain parks and slope diversity,
Sierra is a massive dissapointment in the park, but has amazing powder lines. I dig Bear Valley, a little further south, too. |

Ski ways glades, nevada woods, powder line, aries woods. The best stashes are always in the trees.

It was a pleasant surprise, I was at Mammoth the day before and Canyon lodge was slush at around 10:30 am. We were expecting rain but got snow, so it turned out amazing. |
