I'm thinking about getting rid of my GoPro Hero HD and upgrading. I'm wondering whether I should get the Hero 2 or the Hero 3 Silver Edition. I've read a lot of reviews about the Hero 3 having a lot of issues (freezing, choppy video playback, etc.) so i'm wondering if anyone can comment on this at all.
Also, how much do you think I could get for my Hero HD. I know it probably wont be a huge amount but just wanting to get a feeler for what I can get Thanks |

depends if you can get the silver on sale. Ideally you would want to go that route to get a better machine but in the end, its just gp2+ wifi

I have the black, and it is a lot better than the original, I don't have any freezing issues. I thought I had choppy videos, but it was because I was recording at 120 fps and none of my video players (GOM, VLC and media center) played it properly. But an editing software played it fine.

IMO save for the black. It's only a bit more (worth it if you are not in a hurry to buy it). But like said above GP silver is a GP2 with wifi and a bit smaller. Better but sucks if you already have some accessories only compatible with the GP 1 and 2 case. Also GP2's go for a lot cheaper now that the silver is out (ebay anyway). |

Get the Black edition, look at videos on youtube, the silver isn't much of an improvement over the HD2, the black on the other hand is vastly better in all aspects(video, photo, mic). Bite the bullet and buy the black, that's what i'm going to do.

I want to get the Black Edition, but I really don't want to spend 400 dollars on it. Especially if I can't really get that much for my previous model (Hero 1). The Silver seems like the right price if I can get it on sale.

Forget the go pro, would you like to buy my Kodak play sport instead? In all seriousness of you are going to buy a came and dish out 300 you might as well get the black. It is a long term investment, and I less board and boot that would make up for the difference

like others have stated, if money is a concern right now then get the gp2 or save up for the black edition.

I thought the choppiness of the newer gp were due to older firmware version and they sent out a firmware update to fix small glitches/issues. And make sure you have a good video player. I think VLC works fine but I haven't tried 120fps yet. I may need to borrow my friend's gp again and try it.

I'm also looking at purchasing a GoPro, my mate has a Hero HD he is looking to sell is it worth grabbing a brand new one or would a second hand version be good enough?

^ I'm assuming they included the WiFi BacPac, otherwise the remote is useless. $200 is a great deal on a Hero2 with Wifi and Remote.

I find the shape better on the contour, cuz its more discrete. I do find the contour bumpy, not sure if its my head of there isn't image stabilization

The shape of the contour makes more sense for an action camera since it does look cooler but I had one and I didn't like it at all. I had the ROAM and not being able to change anything without plugging it into a camera annoyed me. I love the new GP3, I have the white edition and 720/60fps is good enough for me. I'm not getting any choppy playback either.

I got a Contour Roam, works great for what I do. Camping, Hiding, Swimming, Snowboarding, and other sports. I use it on my Helmet or my Xshot. No issues so far and that thing is rugged. dropped it hard on cement a few times. EDIT: It's just a bit on the heavy side when I have it on my Xshot stick. other than that, I don't have any cons for it. Changing settings is a hassle but I kept it in one mode since day 1. |

yeah my friend has a contour roam and it has taken a beating. maybe not the best quality picture but he isnt a great editor either. i think that has a lot to do with it. he really likes it for boarding, paddleboarding and the like.

My contour has its limitations but it has taken a beating and still given me fairly good video over the past two years or so. In fact it even fell off my snowboard once at HEav and got returned to me later by a kind gentlemen as you may know if you remember that movie I posted on here. Although I'd like a little more freedom to take higher-fps rates I actually like that the roam has only one thing to screw around with in the field (i.e., on or off). For instance this video of my wife and her mother baking cookies last weekend:

Alright. One more question. How much do you think I can get for my GoPro Hero. It is in almost perfect condition and includes a variety of mounting accessories.
Thanks |
