So I have a hopefully easy question. I got a new board and took it out for its first run upon bringing it home and cleaning it off and such I noticed a small nick or chip in the nose end of the board about 1/3 or 1/2 Inch long going from the edge down it barely hits and has indented the metal layer is this something I need to get fixed immediately before continued use? Or is this kinda stuff to be expected on both tail an nose side? I can post a pic if someone explains how I've never posted on one of these before so not sure how to. Thanks.

A picture would definitely help. You want to fix any partial delams to prevent water from seeping inside and wrecking your board. I have had a couple of these so far. If the edging is pretty far pushed in, you are going to have to pry it out to fix it. Otherwise if you just have topsheet delamination, you can get away with just sealing it up and mashing it back with some epoxy. There are some really good threads on here and elsewhere about fixing delaminations and edge dings if you (or someone who wrote them and is reading this) can find them.

That's pretty minor, the only thing I would do is file the topsheet edge to help reduce the chances of getting dinged up, here's a thread on how to do it:

the only reason to do anything for that is if you want your board to be superficially perfect looking. otherwise, this "ding" requires zero work. it is nothing.

Thanks ctoma. That's a great suggestion. I also go a lot of nicks on the edges after my first day out.

The thing people need to keep in mind is if you ride your board it will take on some damage. Filing the topsheet edge does not guarantee the topsheet will not get nicked or damaged but it does help.
The only way to keep your board looking brand new is hang it on the wall and never ride it. |

thanks for all the replies guys i really appreciate it. and yeah i figured it was minor i just heard a lot of people saying if it goes to the base it was in need of being repaired and as you can see from the pic it touched the metal a tad and wasnt sure if that was what they were referring to being "deep". also while i have people replying...the first time i took it out was yesterday after bringing it home and checking out the bottom i noticed the edges are kinda white like scuff marks and such. is that a normal sign? or is that a sign that the stock wax on it is crap and i need to get a professional wax on it? its primarily just around the edging of the board though.

wax usually wears out faster on the edges because you're always using the edges for turns and stops and just basic control of the board. so you'll see white on the edges more than the rest of the board. and like what ctomas said, if it's white, you need wax..because that's how it looks when wax dries out...
