Hello Sierra Snowboard community! I’m pauly, the newly hired Editor for the newly created Media section of SierraSnowboard.com.
Now that we’ve been formally introduced, I’ll try to tell y’all a bit about me, and more importantly, a bit more about our plans for the new Media section and how you can help out.
About me:
Name: Paul Raymore
Age: 33
Gender: Male
Hometown: Born and raised in Seattle, Wash.; currently live in Truckee, Calif.
Home mountain: I try to ride all the resorts in the North Lake Tahoe region, from Squaw Valley to Boreal to Alpine Meadows, Sugar Bowl, Donner Ski Ranch and everywhere in between.
What I ride: Mostly an old beat-down Arbor Woodie from something like five years ago, mounted with Ride SPI bindings. Though now that I’m working for Sierra Snowboard, I hope to upgrade that setup soon.
What I ski: Yeah, I’m a skier too. Grew up on skis and never gave it up, even after picking up snowboarding 15 years ago. My everyday ski is a pair of Armada ARVs, but my ski of choice whenever there’s fresh snow is the Moment Comi mounted with Fritchie Freeride AT bindings (‘cause this is also my backcountry setup).
Terrain preference: I ride all over the mountain, but especially love bigger lines and the backcountry around Tahoe. I got my Avalanche Level II certification mostly because I found snow science really interesting, but I’m trying to get out and apply some of that knowledge in the backcountry more and more each year.
Dream snowboard/ski trip: Spend a winter in Chamonix, France.
Last job: I’ve been a journalist for the past six years, most recently the editor of Tahoe.com and online editor for the Sierra Sun, Tahoe World, and North Lake Tahoe Bonanza family of newspapers (all in the North Tahoe area).
And the answer is: World Domination!
Just kidding.
Well, not really.
Because of all of you out there in the SierraSnowboard.com community, this site is already the best place on the web to discuss anything about snowboarding (and skiers, we’re going to get there too), meet up with other riders, and procrastinate from doing any real work at your boring desk job.
But Mike, Airik and the rest of the crew aren’t satisfied with that. They want even more content flowing through the site and community, to hopefully inspire all of you to get out into the mountains even more.
So we’re in the process of putting together a plan to make that happen. We hope to have a slew of regular contributors (e.g. hoon) to the Media page providing weather updates from all different regions of the country, gear reviews, rider diaries, updates on what’s happening in the industry and at your local resorts, and checking in with pro riders/skiers and various other industry types for your amusement.
And we’re looking for contributors. So hit me up (via chat, PM or email) if you have an interest in writing for the new Media section of SierraSnowboard.com. We’ve even got some incentives to make it financially worth your while if the fame and glory of being a contributing writer is not enough.
