On Wednesday, December 23, 2009, Sugar Bowl opened their highly anticipated new Summit Chair to skiers and snowboarders looking for a quick and easy way to the top of Mt. Judah.
The fixed-grip quad rises only 420 feet, but opens up a lot of new terrain that was formerly only accessible by hiking.
Conditions on Wednesday were nearly ideal off the top of Mt. Judah – with five to 8 inches of fresh snow in Judah Bowl, and a few rocks poking through at the top of the lift requiring a short traverse along the ridge to access the goods.
Riders and skiers with avalanche equipment and training are able to duck out of the ski resort boundary at the top of the lift for a quick run down to Donner Lake. And Sugar Bowl has created a new Backcountry Adventure Center this season to guide skiers and riders safely in the sidecountry terrain found around the resort.
